Now here's a trailer. As my name suggests I'm a massive Godzilla fan, and I'm ridiculously excited for the 2014 movie. This trailer is too good to be true, IMO.

Discuss trailer/Godzilla in general!

Aside from the budget they've probably got, nothing in the trailer really motivated me to want to watch it. It just looks so... plain?

Disappointing considering I loved Godzilla.

Awww :(

Oh well, different strokes for different folks! It seems like it's gonna be a reaally awesome remake IMO. They're embracing the thematic foundations that made the character so prominent in fiction way back when [most of which have been lost over the years] while still delivering some jaw dropping visuals and action. Despite the scale of the action, they're also trying to predicate everything on suspense [which Gareth has stated is a primary goal]. Smooooth sailing to me.

Not sure what transferred from the BSN to the current forum network, but strictly speaking this would be considered a duplicate thread as we already had a topic dedicated towards the upcoming Gojira movie.

But meh, going along with it all I have to say is I'm stoked. I really, really hope it can cleanse the name from the more recent Hollywood misshaps and revitalize the Gojira brand. With the current eco-political situation, it certainly has the same environment to work with like the original movies had, which might just be what the movies needed to find their true spirit again.

Or at the very least, if they are going to make a dumb flick, make it as awesomely dumb as Pacific Rim. Or even better, just join up with Pacific Rim and have Gojira and the Jäger beat up the next wave of kaiju.

Super duper sorry! I checked the first few pages, though I suppose I should've made a tag check :/

And I disagree about Pacific Rim's "dumbness." It's a very visually intelligent movie.

Oh, it is dumb. It's awesomely dumb no question asked, but it's certainly not an intelligent movie:

^A very accurate review.

Completely disagreed [and Honest Trailers is off the mark a lot of the time... I prefer the link I posted XD]. Plot holes and a non serious tone don't necessarily constitute a "dumb" movie.

It's a dumb movie. It doesn't necessarily mean that it's also a stupid movie (it is not). Those are two seperate qualities.

How so? I'm preeetty sure "dumb" and "stupid" are synonymous...

Dumb is intellectual lazyness. Something is dumb when it potentionally has the properties to be more intelligent, but simply doesn't bother trying to.

Stupid is an intellectual limit. Something stupid can't be more intelligent even if it tried to, because it doesn't have the potential. Note that stupid is defined as "less intelligent" rather than "lol, what an idiot", though the varying degrees of stupid can easily venture into that territory.

For example, a student takes an exam and gets an average score. There are two basic options, one would be said student actually could have rated much better, but didn't bother to invest more time in learning or formulating better answers. He could have gotten top ratings but didn't because he was too lazy. That is dumb.

The other way would be that an average score was the best he could possibly achieve because that amounts to the full capacity of understanding to the related subjects. He is simply not intelligent enough to get better scores. That would be stupid, or in politically correct speech, the opposite side of the intelligence equation.

Do you have a source for that? If we're resorting to personal definitions I could say that something is dumb if said thing is in the position that it can't possess intelligence, but continues trying to. In the end both dumbness and stupidity refer to irrationality in specific circumstances.

For example, a student takes an exam and gets an average score. There are two basic options, one would be said student actually could have rated much better, but didn't bother to invest more time in learning or formulating better answers. He could have gotten top ratings but didn't because he was too lazy. But here you're using "dumb" to describe the action, and "stupid" to describe the actual person. In the first scenario you're judging the worth of the person's actions, and in the second you're judging the worth of the person itself. First scenario has you calling out the act of failing because he was too lazy dumb. Second scenario has you calling the person stupid based on the way he couldn't get better scores. If you were to call the person "dumb" in the second statement it would work perfectly, and if you were to call the action stupid, it would work perfectly and synonymously as well.

Oh semantics, why are you so lovely to debate about? XD
