as on the old forums, this is the place where I'll post about the progress made in the game, even if it's just ridiculously small stuff. Basically so people know that the game is still alive and not dead yet and yes, we still work on it - slowly but steadily.

setting up the MEC group on BioWare's new forum is what I've been working on recently  ;)

I hope I have more to say tomorrow evening/night; with any luck I'll finally find some time to work on the merc concepts and text edits.

I had worked on some of the enemy concepts more
and since I can't call things quit, I was trying a new skin colour for the turian protagonists - before you get your hopes up too high, there is a default look for each protagonists and players won't be able to change that. Sorry to those who absolutely feel the need to customize looks  :(

how about I just keep making antagonists and players will have to take those all down in boss fights *mwuahahaha*
slow progress, but some progress at least ...

still working on those bad boys and ... person of a species that technically has no genders

some enemies done and sent off to Fuelreaver for feedback;
there's one more I'll do for now, then I think I'll have to focus on something else for a while and eventually - if the sprites require it - go over the concepts again and adjust them. There are just some things you can't do at that scale ...

had some RL designs for family members to tkae care of, but managed to make some edits to enemy concepts.
I'll really call it quits for now to work on sprites, and see how things work on the smaller scale.
Not really looking forward to trying to get the movements down on the sprites, that's always the thing that gets me demotivated about them. *sigh*
Oh, but first I need to update some texts ... story and character descriptions.
But *then* it's time to tackle the sprites and maybe then I can post tests to show things again  :)

when after a few days of writer's block you finally get to write again ... and then have to do the 'responsible adult thing' and go to bed because you have to work the next day  <_<

I was done with the draft of the reqrite on good old fashioned paper on April 1st, but was hesitant to post that day  ;)
since then I managed to type it all down and am now doing some revisions, but things are moving along  :)

slight setback ...
the other night when I got too tired to continue writing, I had made some notes of the ideas I still had and hastily wrote them down and - you guessed it - I can't identify everything anymore because it looks worse than something a doctor would write ... thank you sleepy brain for losing your ability to write

unfortunately, the ones that I can still read are also the ones that I still remember anyway ...
the unreadable one was something about giving players the possibility to voice concern about something, so if I get complains about "why can't I voice concern over X?!", I'll probably remember what it was  ;)

finished the story rewrite #623058108501283 the other day and sent it to Fuelreaver for feedback

also, there was one character from way, way back in the early days of "The Turian Project" and I meant to bring him back and thought I finally found something, but then it didn't work out after all - so far at least. The problem is that I keep thinking 'but I know how to bring him into MEC 2'
I wonder what Fuelreaver thinks when I'm talking about MEC 2 as if it's just ... 'yeah, we just finish MEC and then we'll go on and work on MEC 2' like it's no problem or as if we're close to finishing MEC or anything

MEC2?! As awesome as that would be how about finishing MEC1 first. I remember thinking "It would be great to play this while waiting for ME3"  :P

Side question. There's you and Fuelreaver but are there anyone else still working on this game? There used to be more if I remember right. Anyway you guys keep up the good work :)

oh, MEC is my main focus, don't worry. But sometimes while working on it there are just ideas floating through my mind that concern things that would happen after MEC. And while I'm not actively chasing those ideas I won't block them either.  ;)

you and me both ... 'oh, we just finish it and people can play it to pass the time till ME3 arrives' ... ha ... HA! ... *sobbing*

yeah, it's basically just the two of us at the moment. Mostly for RL reasons most people left the project at some point.
thank you  :)

and I updated the antagonist descriptions
next up: crew, squad, protagonists and some of the NPCs

texts for the crew, squad and protagonists done
the already existing NPCs remain ...

but I see light at the end of the tunnel
and it has the shape of a sprite; prepare yourselfs for my endless complaints about sprites and how hard it is to get anything done with characters that are only a few pixel high and how I like how things look while still, but the moment it's animated it all falls apart ...

texts for the NPCs (as far as they exist already) are updated, too

guess there's nothing else I can claim needs doing, so I have to resume work on the sprites ... *meep*

and I'm back to avoiding working on the sprites  >_<
I really need to get over this feeling, or there'll never be any progress ... hopefully, I can do so later this week as I'll have a few days off thanks to a lucky combination of days off, a holiday here and a mandatory 'bridge' holiday set by the company

if not, bombard me with messages or something  <_<

well, that didn´t go as planned:

I didn't get to work much on the sprites to begin with and nothing I tried worked (fixing things in old spirties, creating new sprites)
maybe I should do tilesets to get back into working on a small scale ... I dunno  :(

EDIT:
or rework the facesets, those need to be done, too ... and it would mean slowly going down in scale ...

sorry for the lack of updates, I really have a hard time getting motivated to work on the sprites and other tiny pixel work; I associate it with a lot of frustration :(

I'll be gone for a few days, starting this Wednesday until the weekend
While I'll probably take Hardscrabble with me, I don't know yet if I'll have the time to do anything - not that I've done anything in the past 1 1/2 weeks  :(

I'm extremely sorry, but I managed to waste 1 1/2 weeks of vacation and not doing anything  :(
add that to the previously inactive time and it's been almost a month now ...

what I did last night was just some shifting and copying of files and preparation to do something, but not actually doing anything ...
sooo ... still avoiding doing sprites basically, and swinging between tilesets and facesets to do instead ...

not dead yet, but I still haven't found my motivation to do pixel work, which sucks because I want to continue working on MEC, but pixel work is what needs to be done now ... D:

Norton's back :)
at least to some degree; still busy with college, but obviously determined to release a somewhat updated version of the demo

we've talked a bit about about the future of MEC and ideally the demo will be updated every once in a while to get feedback.
I should be hard at work on the sprites, facesets etc. so that when Norton is done with college we can really dig into making this game.

let's wait and see if we can actually do it or if RL has other plans in store for us  ;)

I wrote a new version of the Intro that fits with the story. You probably won't see much of it (though I have to admit, I left it very, very open to begin with) in the demo.

But eventually what you can play as demo (the final version of the demo anyway), will become the intro ... basically demo + story = intro  ;)

with the recent momentum I'm really digging the idea of continuing things into MEC2 to actually cover everything until the end of ME3; I just want to have enough of MEC2's story to make sure things add up between the two games, so we wouldn't need to retcon stuff ...

I hear Norton's work on the demo goes along well and I might have a test version of it soon and shortly after it should be available for download  :)
Please keep in mind that the demo is still a work in progress and not all features are in it yet; more features will be added in future releases of the demo and we hope to get feedback  :)

why is it that ever so often when I write about something, one or two weeks later things change?!

well, the plans for the intro changed a bit, but I think it will be for the better  :)

still brooding over the overall story;

and I got to play demo 1d;
there are still some things Norton wants to fix before releasing it to the public
the new Citadel looks good though  :)

admittedly, this one will have less content than demo 1b, but this will be addressed in future updates
