my current trilogy playthrough has kind of left me in a weird mood concerning Mass Effect. Maybe I should just let it rest for a bit and concentrate on MEC instead?! It certainly wouldn't hurt ...

believe it or not, I actually did something for MEC today. Rough version of the turian (female) front. I'll work on shadows and the actual walk cycle later, for the moment I just want to get some rough versions of all the species needed to have something to work with.

completed the WIP version of the Turian female sprite.
I also edited enough things on the Geth sprite so it can be used as a WIP/placeholder version.
Ironically enough both of those already had a wee bit of a walking cycle from when I had worked on them before (they'll need some editing though before they'd be considered 'finished')

salvaged more sprites I had worked on before: salarian (I thought I had posted about him last night ...) and the human male; and for now I added the heads of the female human, the asari, the drell and the batarian to the same armor for placeholders.
That's about all I could take from previously done ones, the rest i'll do from scratch. Maybe with a quick glance at what Shadee and Norton had done for them. But even for the placeholders I want to redo them myself to better estimate how they'll look.

Quarian male sprite also good enough to qualify as placeholder. Took a wee bit longer than just adding the side view tonight. There was just something off about when changing from front to side view that was weirding me out - placeholder or not.
Next up should be the Quarian lady sprite ![]()

Quarian lady sprite done for now, too, though the head keeps bothering me. By comparison it's too small. I enlarged it compared to the body and how a normal Quarian should look like, but when compared to the sprites of most of the other species in the game, they just aren't exaggerated enough. It's similar with the Salarians.
Eventually I'll have to rework them anyway to add the walking cycle, we'll see how much finetuning the head size requires ...

Vorcha placeholder sprite is done for now as well.
As I said, most of them are just the standard standing position. The walking cycle needs to be done and colours, light & shadows need to be added, but for now they'll do.
As far as profile pictures go, I might just resize the ones I made before or use screenshots (maybe with a pixel filter) as placeholders.
I should probably work on the tilesets next. I did a wee tiny bit of work on those before, but don't really have experience with them, but we'll see. ![]()
But those are more complicated than just making placeholder sprites, even if it's just WIP versions. So updates will be a bit more scarce again.

I had hoped to spent more time of my vacation working on MEC, but so far I mostly used it for the things you'd do during vacation ... nap and play videogames (but at least I'm done with the single player of Legacy of the Void now
).
Today I made some progress with the Citadel tilset though, I think I covered floor tiles for the most part. Hopefully tomorrow I can add to the wall tiles and some items here and there ... we'll see ![]()

I know it's been ages since I last posted here.
had a bit of an art block, then a spur of energy to work on sprites and tilesets, which was then interrupted by playing through Doom and now I'm finally back in the saddle.
Made a lot of crates recently, also worked on some other background stuff like the skycar.
And I'm currently working on some potted plants for the Citadel.
