Marie-freePS2 copy of Persona 4, thank you.
At least the Vita will be getting a few gems down the line.
I like Marie (because of Persona Q, haven't played Golden), but the worse sin Golden commits is replacing Dave Wittenberg as Teddie. Speaking of replacing VAs, Naoto's voice actor in Q is f*cking horrid. At first I didn't care, but the more she talks the more I hate it.

Based on what I've seen via preview scenes, Naoto's holds the least resemblance to its original VA.
There are glimpses of similarity for sure but it's definitely least favourite change in Q considering that her original voice work was my favourite in P4. It just has a weird rasp to it. Still, I can be thankful that it was changed in the spin offs rather than in Golden so I can still enjoy her performance in the main games.
On the other hand, I didn't mind the changes of Margaret or Theo although Theo's old VA got me all tingly with dat deepness.
Ultimately though, the direction they took Teddie in is enough to overshadow all other voice work in a resolutely negative way.

Theo's new voice is the most generic voice in existence and doesn't hold a candle to Travis'. Margaret's new voice actress sounds like she's reading a school report on her own frontal lobotomy, which is even worse in Ultimax.
I obviously miss Naoto's original voice actress a lot. The new one doesn't bother me as much as any other change though - Sam Riegel's Teddie was fine in Persona 4 Golden, because back then it sounded very close to Wittenberg's bear-like mannerisms. Lately it has devolved into awful along with the character itself, to a point where he sounds just as bad as Kuma, which is a sin.
Oh yeah, Margaret's voice actor is also f*cking horrid. I don't know what it is with Atlus, whatever voice actors they initially have, and inconsistent role reprisals. I have no idea why they couldn't get Dave and Naoto's voice actor back. I'm going to assume Troy is above anything Japanese at this point which is fine because Matthew did a great Kanji.

Ken is actually the best character. And his change was MUCH appreciated. I knew I wasn't tripping when I thought, "I don't have the urge to hit him in the throat" when he opened his mouth in Q.

While there's truth to this, however, voice acting is in large due to performance of the actor and quality of the voice direction. Excellent voice direction can make wonders, see The Last of Us documentary for frame of reference - There you have Troy Baker, talking about how long it took before he finally found the right tone for Joel, without his tendency to resort to his awful melodramatic overacting ala James Sunderland in the Silent Hill Collection.This is essentially it. I don't hate Ken, but I don't care about him either. Same with Marie.
I don't hate Ken, I find him as appealing as the void. Whatever atoms that make him up, I offer them my condolences

I wonder if Atlus is gonna continue the trend of adding atleast one useless character each game.
