I'm gonna wait and see how it will play out. I'm sure atleast will still keep the social aspect in the game.
Yeah I don't think it's going anywhere. Even if the usual progression of social links was absent I think it'd be fine if it was still obvious that you were forming progressively stronger relationships (with tangible gameplay benefits) with your team and other characters as the story went along. Well-written characters is the reason why social links work in the first place. The characters you're interacting with feel very human and they have their own problems, aspirations and doubts. As long as that's there I don't care how I'm interacting with characters.

As long as the characters we interact with are of the same high quality as always and that the interactions feel natural then I can really only see gains to be made with what seems to be a new approach.

Exactly Rah. I'm also interested in the fact that it is spread across multiples cities this time. I hope the other areas we visit feel as lively as Shibuya is sure to feel. Not necessarily in the amount of people but just places to go and things to do.

I knew it, the article basically confirmed some of my thoughts. The thing shown at the end of the trailer is a Shadow, the protagonist's shadow.

What they should do with the social link system is not remove it, but rather take it in new directions.. It seems they might take some cues from Catherine, in regards to the pub setting, where Vincent could sit down at his mates's table and interact with them, and the other visitors in the bar. Persona 4 did something really neat, by including the other characters/NPCs as occasional guest stars, which would result in you getting boosts with them as well for their social links.
An example, like say the Tower in Persona 4 with the geeky kid, at some point in his social link it's his birthday, and Narukami can invite all of his friends over, this can vary depending on how many of them he's recruited so far. Naoto's social link also changes slightly depending on whether Nanako is in the hospital or not, so certain things are different. Social links referencing current events in the story, or changing depending on conditions made by the story is what I'd like to more of in the future. A stronger consistent flow between both.. heck, have the relationships be brought up some more in the story, like the Valentines Event, New Years or Christmas.. don't hide it too much, that'd also be neat.

Reezy, plz - Demons are sooo old school
Anyway -- Great characters are good and all, but I'd argue that the social link system is partially what makes Persona stand out from the rest and it's a long stronger with building chemistry between the characters than other JRPGs I've played.. I think the system itself, with how it's build around calendar and scheduling is what makes it so good. The fact that you can't max them out immediately every single day, makes it flow all the more naturally and authentic.. Heck I like how in Persona 3, the social links with your SEES squaddies don't open until later in the game, as it wouldn't make much sense with the story either or the male protagonist, since they don't really know each other that well and it takes a long time for them to truly connect. Pacing is key here too and I think Persona 3 did that best out of all them so far.

Yupp, not being able to a la DAO gift my way to being someones most treasured friend or lover is one of many things that made the Social link system great

Great points, which is why it's probably not going anywhere. Not only does the progression of social links make a whole lot of sense, it's also pretty unique and contributes to the pacing of the game. That's why I brought up relationships still naturally progressing in the absence of S.Links (if that was the case). The S.Link is just one way of illustrating that natural progression. I don't see a reason to replace something that isn't broken but maybe Atlus came up with an equally engaging and meaningful alternative. Who knows

Miyazaki made a film based on Lupin called Castle of Cagliostro -- It's a bit of the quirky variety; Lupin is essentially this anti-hero sort of character voiced by none other than David Hayter in the dub. It's pretty good, watching it and one might notice the similarities in its artstyle to that of Persona 5's "All-Out-Attack Artwork" we've seen.

He's the first one that comes to mind for me aswell, all those years of hearing that name has made it stick real good!
