Which sucks because in FES if you want Orpheus Telos you need to do all s-links, at least in P3P you had Minako where you where not forced to date anyone and get Telos.

No, sadly it always end up being intimate. No idea why Atlus didn't think about that with Persona 3. It's different with the female protagonist and Persona 4 though. In that respect, I decided not to max out all the girls social links at the time because of the same reasons as you. It won't be a problem in Persona 4 though or with the female protagonist.
And sadly this is the reason I stopped playing as Minato and went back to Minako. Well, that and Aki.

To each his own. I don't find having to fulfill certain criteria for optional content poor game design at all.

Apparently my sense of commitment and loyalty to one group of pixels at a time overrides my pimp game. 
Yukari and Aki/Shinji are the only pixels my Doors need.

Yeah having a choice is important, just as having the choice to become some supreme pimp is also nice but only having that option just suck.
It's for that reason that I stopped partway through my P3P Minato playthrough recently. It just feels really, really tacky and poorly thought out.
Its also not only very awkward, you have to time the social links right as well. Otherwise you run the risk of getting them reverted >_>

I been on the 9F of the Clock Tower for two days trying to figure out how to make it to this save gear. I'm probably done with Persona Q
I had no trouble with that. You need go up and down a lot of stairs between floor 8 & 9. Then you need to make sure you know how the transporting carts work, if you've drawn most of the map on that floor, and searched all rooms, then you'll probably notice which cart you need to place as a bridging gap to reach the save gear.

Well know I've found it, so hello! Also excited for Persona 5 and Dance All Night (problem?). Atlus sure does milk Persona 4 but it is some good milk at least in my opinion

lol yeah, I seriously loathe JP Rise voice. English is sooo much better.
