Well well, what have we here.

Here here! Something about that rather generic design of Narukami just makes him so damn desirable. Only had to play the game for an hour to go "damn, I like this guy!"
His design isn't generic as much as his characterization outside of Persona 4. In fact, in terms of design, he sticks out from most JRPG protagonists.
Still, he pales in comparison to Minako, so suck it.
Adachi is best character -- One of my favorite characters in the game along with being my favorite Persona villain.

Is that David Xanatos as Yu Narukami? ![]()
First time I've seen it. You must have been happy to stumble upon it.

Well I think it is rather bland. I mean, grey eyes, grey hair with a rather "normal" looking hairstyle, has dark and white colors. It comes across as rather lacking in liveliness, yet despite that makes him rather unique.
Minako is cool, but will never be Yu Narukami cool.
So you can suck it, good sir!

A friend of mine had it made for me, so no surprise you see it for the first time.
But how does that make him look generic? What you're describing was the point though -- The idea was to make him look like an ambiguous character who could appeal to most players by way of reflecting several feelings towards them and through his mannerisms. His hair is stylish, to contrast that of the wild manes of the countryside in order to show that he's a city boy. He's supposed to look ordinary, apart from other JRPGs protagonist which he does.Well I think it is rather bland. Yu Narukami's characterization is incredibly generic, but P4Hero is pretty cool!Minako is cool, but will never be Yu Narukami cool.

If anything is generic, then it's his characterization outside of Persona 4.

But Minako > All of them, so suck it, yo!
Derp, poor choice of words with that. By generic I meant bland, but that word doesn't even mean that. Sorry for that.
But yes, I find his design to be rather interesting considering how he has to appeal to such a large audience, yet is so simple in his design.
I wouldn't call his design generic. One of the first things I noticed about P4 was how different he looked compared to the average protagonist. He does look kinda emotionless but thats a common problem with silent protagonist designs. Generic protagonist design would be say Edge from star ocean 4.

That's mostly what sells it, really. Just like Chris said, there was a real conviction in creating Yu design-wise, and him being rather 'simple' on that regard is what makes him stand out--there aren't any extravagant or bombastic details to him that assault your eyes. You only need to look at iconic characters in gaming (like Mario or Sonic) to see that they as well are simple when it comes to their design.
There are of course other aspects that make Yu stand out; from his looks, movement, mannerism and chemistry with others. But on the design front, I wouldn't call him generic or bland.

Narukami isn't even in the same league as Minako
He's still great if rather dull.. which make him stand out. So yay for dull!

This fine gentleman gets it.
Persona 3 PSP is still a thing I need to do.

Why do you keep disappointing me all the time, goddamn you!
I am lazy. I will get to it eventually but I have a large pile.
Been playing Persona 4 Ultimax, since I had it borrowed from a friend. Cool fighting game, I enjoy it a lot. Didn't proceed with the story, since it seemed rather bad and the characters weren't interesting to me (I think one needs to play the previous games to appreciate them).
Probably need to get to it at some point. I do have a Vita.
Yeah for Arena and Ultimax to be worth it one must have played both P3 and P4. I've not played Ultimax myself so this is based entierly on Arena that I probably never would've gotten if not for P3/P4
Yeah gonna pick up Ultimax immediately after I'm done with P4, since I think I'll be able to finish the game way before Tw3 is out. Gonna play through Arena story first of course with the DLC. Not expecting much from a fighting game story-wise, considering they tend use narrative more as a means to put character 'face offs' with each other, but if I get a solid fighting game along with returning characters that I like with banter and such, I'll be more than pleased with it.
Get Ultimax as well, Rah. I'll kick your ass!

After my PS3 broke last summer I kinda retired that generation. Well I "could" use my brothers PS3 if I reeeeeally needed to ^^
Besides I'm genuinly the worst person on this planet when it comes to fighting games. I'd lose to a quadriplegic

Needs some changes.
That wasn't smart. The game spoils the entire plot of previous games.Been playing Persona 4 Ultimax, since I had it borrowed from a friend. Cool fighting game, I enjoy it a lot.
