So I had a pleasant surprise today. I was reading a book called Beyond the Dark Veil, which covers A Photographic Style in the Victorian Era revolving around the Post-Mortem. In the Glossary, I found a very familiar phrase.

As it turns out, Memento Mori is an entire art genre which involves both the organic and the deceased, Centering around the theme that Life is short, and to make the most of it. It reminds me a tiny bit of how Persona draw a bit of various mythos from the choices in Persona as well. Considering Time and Death make up a huge portion of P3's theming, I thought it was worth mentioning.

That's how the premise is to be understood. The characters feel chained and imprisoned, the Velvet Room's appearance changes in accordance with its guest.

Katsura Hashino, much like other Japanese creators like Hideo Kojima or Swery65, are men of the world -- They are infatuated with western culture which is reflected in their work. Persona 4 has drawn inspiration from the likes of David Lynch's Mulholland Drive and Twin Speaks for instance, in regards to the surreal spectacular elements circled around a murder mystery. I wouldn't say it's unlikely that writings like the stuf out of this book might have influenced it too.
