P4 path -- Minato is a lot more engaging character than Narukami, and the events for the P4 side is generally stronger even if the focus is shifted towards generally the P4 cast again. I enjoy the P3 side too though because the P3 cast has quite a few character I like a lot and Shinji deserves all the development he can get.

Yeah, Q did a fantastic job with Minato. Plus I prefer his farewell on the P4 side.

Also, I should point out that Narukami is actually a better character when it's the player controlling him as the dialogue options allows him to be the kind of character he was like in Persona 4 as opposed to the fighting games.

 

All of this just generally piles up to the reasons for why I prefer my protagonists as silent in the Persona games.

I have to say...... P4G has the longest opening I have ever played since KH2. But it's really good!!

Yeah the opening is a bit slow though it really picks up after that.

Actually, I'd say the pacing is quite quick as opposed to Persona 3. You're almost immediately introduced to the combat, in fact, the very first sequence in the game is a combat scenario with an unseen foe. It doesn't take long before you're placed into an actual dungeon and fighting a boss to get a feel for the dungeon crawling and combat.

Persona 3 takes a while for it to get to exploring Tartarus, though it's rather fast on its feet in regards to introducing and framing the overall tone.

Actually, I'd say the pacing is quite quick as opposed to Persona 3. You're almost immediately introduced to the combat, in fact, the very first sequence in the game is a combat scenario with an unseen foe. It doesn't take long before you're placed into an actual dungeon and fighting a boss to get a feel for the dungeon crawling and combat.

Persona 3 takes a while for it to get to exploring Tartarus, though it's rather fast on its feet in regards to introducing and framing the overall tone.

 

4 is slow. 3 is just even slower. I feel that both games don't really open up untill the life sim bit's of the game start up.

The combat is almost immediately introduced, you're even aware of the premise only a few scenes in.. someone has been murdered, and you can already piece together that things will get hectic and it'll be important to the plot. The part with Yosuke, Narukami and Chie going into the TV doesn't take that long either. Sure, you're not granted actual freedom until a few of those scenarios are ended but I wouldn't call it slow even by comparison.

The beginning is meant to show how it works, and set the stage for things to come/the overall tone of feeling lost and bewildered in the fog, not much else -- As soon as you go into the TV with Yosuke you'll finally get to really feel it.

 

A very appropriate way of framing how things are gonna go.

P4G's opening is somewhat "long" but it's still rather quick to introduce the player to most of the vital components of the game which really negated the length of the opening well enough. P3.. yeah it was long alright!

Ah yes, Square Enix -- Here's 3-4 hours prologue that you probably couldn't even tell was a prologue.

 

Me: Okay, Square Enix, but when I can actually get to play the game and start fumbling around with the mechanics and build my party, everything?

 

Square: Oh, did you say when you'd finally be granted more freedom? Sorry, I thought you said more padded nonsense!

Me: Oh, now we are fighting a giant monster boss... I guess things will finally start to kick itself up a notch... Oh, apparently not as now I'm fighting our regular Final Fantasy's iteration of Cid as he's apparently a bad guy judging by his hammy monologue -- Come to think of it, we've been fighting these bosses left and right now but I still haven't been able to customize my party yet?

 

Me: Oh, ****, now I have to play as the black guy and the crazy red head without the strong build I have with Lightning

 

Me: Oh, it turns out that the giant L'Cie or Fal'Cie or whatever it is -- Is also the big bad and now we are fighting him as he turned himself into a giant owl.. What do you mean the game is not ever yet? What do you mean we've only just passed the prologue? The villain has finally shown himself, we just fought him! You're telling me we're only just granted freedom now? I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON!

Yeah I give some game openings **** for being too long or too slow but nothing will ever surpass that.

How do you gain courage in P4G? I ask because there was the scene at school where you talk to Chie with yosuke after the fight with her shadow, and thanks you for saving her there was a dialogue choice where you could say "Falling for me,huh?" but it said I wasn't brave enough! And it happened again when asking for her number. Instead asking straight out, I had to use the investigation as a excuse! :lol:  My guy is a wimp! ( Granted he does have superpowers and fight monsters on a daily basic ) but a wimp nevertheless!

It's an interesting mechanic for Persona to grant some unique dialogue options, like in your average western RPG, as it grants advantages in terms of advancing social links -- Gaining courage is either done by beating optional bosses, doing the part-time job at the hospital or spending the evening reading certain novels. A lot of activities are meant to boost your social stats. The game will sort of give a little hint with some of the part-time jobs and other stuff that will grant you boosts to your stats.
