It's a much bigger deal in Japan though. I don't imagine that they would even have half the hesitancy of replacing an English VA if the need arises. Plus, there's also the fact that Igor is a more central and iconic character.

Every single English sequel/rerelease has seen a replacement of one character at the very least.

Don't recall Portable having a new voice at all? Name one.

And I'm aware of Japan's dedication to consistency, and I'm also aware that Atlus U.S.A consists of Japanese born Americans, who localize games with such precision that you'd expect the same kind of dedication in terms of consistency.

P3P didn't have any recasting at all.

Okay. Every upgrade/sequel except for Portable.

There, lol.

Well of course a Persona sequel would have new voices -- It's kinda a gimme for games with entirely new stories :P

As for "direct sequels" -- I don't particular see it as something that always happens. Consistency is important and I think when it comes to Atlus, this counts more for anything or at least I thought so. They've been disappointing me a lot lately by declaring all of these strange spin-offs as canon in such an oddly fashion.

That goes without saying, ha, but I was referring to direct sequels. Like 4A and 4U for 3. I know Fuuka's 3 VA got a lot of criticism but I prefer her to the over-saturated Wendee Lee.

Atlus just seems to be playful when it comes to the various 4 spinoffs and the like. They're big on consistency but they also enjoy yanking chains. I wouldn't be too disheartened. At least until we see the state of P5.

Then you are officially on my hitlist.

That's not really a good thing. It's kinda annoying.

A WENDEE LEE FAN!? :o

AND HE COMPLAINS ABOUT BRYCE PAPERMACHE!? :o

I don't mind it. It will all sort itself out in the end anyway! After the trail of tears at least.

It's not very polite to speak about somebody as if they aren't present, sir. :)
Also, a fan? No. But her acting and voice was miles better than that monotonous, mood-swinging, atrocity that was Persona 3 Fuuka. Then again, Fuuka is meh.

I don't get this at all. What is the fascination with wanting other people to be upset and ravel in their disappointment? Yes, I get it. It's fun to mock overly attached fans, that's all well and fine, but this is seriously not cool -- The amount of VA changing is jarring and I think it's okay to be upset about that. Just sayin' dude.

It's same BS with Kiefer Sutherland suddenly voicing Big Boss.

Talking of hit lists means you waive polite discourse, kind sir! I do say!

At least Fuuka's old VA was 'unique'. I didn't really have an issue with her for the most part, battle cries aside. I really don't mind that they replaced her though. I just wish it was someone other than Lee.

I wasn't referring to replacing voice actors at all though? I was referring to the 'canonicity' debate. Some fans will agonise and pick apart everything that Atlus say when it comes to the spinoffs but I wouldn't take everything to heart. I have faith that everything will be sorted out in the end.

No need to take it to heart.

Which is incidentally like saying -- Out of all these dog poo's, made out various animal feces, I think this one looks least awful. Her new voice sounds and feels better and it doesn't randomly switch between moods as if the actress is reading out her script on her own frontal lobotomy. I'll take anyone over her old one any day.

Replacing voice actors is related to the discussion of coherence and consistency. I don't particular take too much of their idea of "canon" to heart as much as you'd think I do. I do, however, take consistency quite seriously. Atlus isn't immune from criticism. They've made quite a few awful mistakes or bad choices I'd want to point my finger at.

Fuuka sounds like a robot in P3, very happy they got Wendee to replace that robot. She was fantastic as Maya and Fuuka in Arena.

I take anything above Fuuka's original voice. Just not a fan of something that strikes me more as a robot than human

As one of the 3 people who like Fuuka. God her original voice actor sucked, her voice often seemed to change mid word.

On the plus side, the awful acting did lead to this gem.

So im confused about the golden anime. Is this just the new scenes from the game or a complete remake? I've seen conflicting views on it.

It's a new anime -- I think it's an improvement over the original so far.

So it's a complete remake. It certainly looks prettier than what i've seen of the old one.

It's a new anime. You can see even in that video scenes from the first game/anime have been redone. New art style, tighter focus from Atlus, the big stuff from Golden added along with Marie and new music.

This also means hopefully issues that where present int he first anime have been fixed(mostly the fight scenes, how characters like Kanji where handled  ect) have been resolved.

I am looking forward to the dub, but my hope of Naotos Golden voice making it in(unlike Mary in the first anime butchering the character) seems dead in the water now :(

Really, as long as Mary never voices Naoto again I don't care. Valerie Arem is not a bad va and what I heard in the gameplay sounds very similar to her old va, so long as she does a good job I'll be fine with her. No Mary 2.0 plz

Bad enough Theo will be butchered. Don't need to see Naoto get butchered again.

It looks great.

Most important aspect for me atm is that I hope they kept Yu's awesome personality from the original anime.

Troy Baker will not return as Kanji Tatsumi.
