Man, I don't think I ever won an online game of Arena.  But then again, I'm kinda terrible at all fighting games that aren't BlazBlue.  And I'm still kinda terrible at that one.

It was English Akihiko against Japanese Naoto -- I actually held my own pretty well against him. It's something to win a match online but another to beat a guy who's clearly adept at it. He even gave me a little "C'est Manifique" awwww -- I'm SOW PROUD.

Ah, I remember winning against a Japanese player in SF4 who kept me on my toes. It was worth a victory dance because, aside from MK9, I'm pretty bad at fighting games.

 

I think not having a fightpad (stick?) has something to do with it.

Well, I don't know -- It depends on what you're most comfortable with but I'd like to think that it's easier to learn this game's mechanics with a fighting stick because the analog stick can be quite unreeling when you need it.

My analog stick flares up so I find my character perpetually jumping. I'm confused on what happened to it. Was it fighting games that broke it or my controller which broke my performance in fighting games? The chicken or the egg?

 

To add insult to injury, it's a regular 360 controller so its Dpad isn't ideal.

It's just because the mechanics are shite, in terms of using the analog stick -- Having the analogue stick be the jump button as well as the one to activate the SP skills and Super Cancels can be infuriating.

For me fight stick or not I'm still not very good at fighters, but I love them still. Getting the rare online win on USF4 is bliss.
