Saw the new one. The voice is close enough to Brianne, though I'll still prefer the original. Not exactly the best dialogue I've seen. o.O Naoto's is just...ick. Ultimax had it pretty close, but the Q version isn't really on the same bar of quality. While I love the design of the exclusive hardware, think I'm gonna stick with P5.
Who's Brianne? Anyway, it seems it's Labrys' voice actress who's doing Ken now, which is weird? Guess Atlus just said "**** it" in regards to even trying bringing all the old voices back at this point. Naoto's voice is fine with me, not holding up to the original though but the original voice actress still has her battle lines in Ultimax at least so that's good enough for me.
They've must have been out of their minds to cast Mr Generic as Theodore instead of Travis this time though.
Personally, I think the worst re-cast they've done is Erin Fitzgerald as Chie whose voice generally annoys me.

Really, none of the english voices for Chie come anywhere close to Chie in Japanese(which is one oft he few characters that sounds much better in Japanese)

I enjoyed both of Chie's English VA. They're clearly different from each other but I feel that each lady gave a solid performance. I didn't really dislike any of the P4 voices.
Honestly, the only voice that has really annoyed me was Ken's in P3.
Hoping we get some new voices for the main cast in P5 though.

Japanese Chie is even worse -- she's the the exact example of the kind of voice that represents this twisted notion that all High School girls has to sound like squeeky-chimpmunks, as opposed to people in their late teens. To me, Tracey Rooney did that. Her and Yukiko's voices at the same time were the most authentic voices and thus when they chose Erin Fitzgerald to replace her and she'd do that annoying voice of her, which makes me want to pull out my thumbs with a thumbscrew, they ruined it.
I don't mind them re-using old actors as long as it suits the characters, which they most likely will to some degree.

I was fine with the new voice for Chie but god it took me a while to get used to it. The fact that she did the exact same voice as she does for Noire from Neptunia did not help me at all.

The original American voice actor for Chie was the only one I like. The others are just too high pitched.

Chie is immature, loud, talks before she thinks and overexaggerates. Yui Horie(who is an amazing va) did this perfect, Erin while not as good also does this. Tracey failed big time, not to mention her overall performance was pretty dam bad.
Also comparing Chie to Yuki is just silly as both are completely different character types thus different voices need to happen. Ami and Amanda also do this, both being very close to eachother.
Tracey does not fit the character at all. Someone with a high pitch voice fits Chie perfectly because of her personality and quirks.

Yosuke is immature -- Not entirely sure what the definition of "immature" is to you but Chie is hardly that. She's not the sharpest knife in the crayon box if that's what you really meant to say. I don't know this Yui person, wouldn't even know how good she is as the character given the English option is the only one available in the original. I don't consider Arena all that valid given all the characters are badly written in the fighting games and act like caracitures of themselves which was always annoying.
I played both versions of Persona 4 and I can say for certain which one I thought was overall better and not in any shape or form, feel like it was forced. That one would be Tracey Rooney -- Her iteration of the Trial of the Dragon scene and the occasional awkward moments of Chie were excellent, like during the school trip, and I remember her battle quotes and occasional kung-fu grunts sounding excellent. Especially the Persona summons like "Protect me, To-mai".
Saying that someone with a "high-pitched voice" fits Chie seems like a rather weak argument as that would imply that all energetic people have higher octave voices, which is simply not true. It is a ridiculous misnomer about high school girls created by cartoons and anime.
There were no comparison between Yukiko and Chie made, it was me pointing out that of all the voices in the game, theirs felt the most authentic without feeling superficial or cartoonish.
But it's futile to argue about, really.

Having played Ultimax I've also come to realize how much I miss Dave Wittenberg as Teddie as well. Riegel's voice has become too irritating, almost like his Japanese counterpart. One can argue that it's partially because Teddie's character is deliberately annoying, but failing to realize that deliberately annoying is still annoying.

Todd Haberkorn needs to voice a main character in P5.

Considering the fact that Yui is a high profile actress in Japan and has done alot of voice work for anime and movies, it's not like Persona is her only time she's done something. Same with Ami, Hanazawa-san, Romi, Tomokazu ect.

And what does that have to do with what I wrote? I was talking about how not having a Japanese option for language in Persona 4 makes it hard to establish a comparison and overall judgement. I don't admittedly care too much though so live and let live with that.

I like Wittenberg, especially as Welkin in Valkyria Chronicles. He was the perfect Teddie for me who never ended up sounding too annoying in the end.
