Is there really a need to have a tag to say you're a helpful person? If a new person is struggling, just help them.

If only people would. Here I am with a suggestion and now there's people making the assumption there's a nefarious reason behind it, when its just a suggestion to help people, one used on other forums already.

Google searched for one, http://forums2.battl....asp?m=21616662 Scroll down, notice how some folks have a "friendly!" tag in place of where "member" would normally be. That tells me that those folks are people I can probably go to for help if I needed it.

I don't see how that hurts, or puts anyone on a pedestal. Just makes it easier and quicker to know who I can come to.

What determines a helpful poster, apart from that posters narcissism?

Post count obviously. The more posts you have, the more helpful you probably are. Also likes. Likes are important.

Or the more annoying you are.

Initially it doesn't hurt, but I've seen similar systems where it starts out fine and becomes a mess later on, which I'd rather not see happening on here.

1. I didn't realize that game was still around

2. This forum has double the amount of members that one does so it's probably a lot easier to maintain with the smaller numbers

3. While I don't think it hurts, I just don't see the point really.  Chances are they'll look for moderators right away, or just make a topic asking for help.

Good intentions, but really I don't see it serving any real purpose.

How so? Those tagged folks not helping and being the opposite of helpful? Folks attacking the tagged members just for having the tag? Cause I haven't spent loads of time on forums that have had this type of thing or a variation of it.

In various ways, depending on who the person was, plus again, I don't like to bring up the popularity count, but that did play factors in certain users - it's really dependant on the forums as a whole.  The idea is viable, but at the end of the day, it depends on the users themselves and the type of energy they bring to the forums itself.  Maybe they should do a test run and see what happens, who knows - it might work, I just don't see it happening in a positive way, from my experiences back in the day (though, those were more "competitive type forums", so I guess egos tend to clash more often).

Interesting. I do remember back in the day there were a couple members here that it seemed everyone wanted to see turned into moderators, just out of popularity alone, but it didn't happen because Bioware knew better- there has to be more than that to a mod. And one of my friends who was helpful became a mod but ended up having that responsibility removed when he screwed up and did something against the rules set out for mods to follow. While a "friendly" tag, "helpful" tag, or whatever isn't even remotely as important as a moderator tag is, I can see the parallel as to how it can backfire or not work out. Won't be as big of a mistake though.

I doubt popularity would have anything to do with it as I believe Bioware knows how easy popularity can be manipulated. A test run would be great I think, especially when Inquisition launches and new players will flock to the boards. Good thing The Bioware Forum(what do we call it for short, TBF?) isn't a competitive one. At least I don't think so, there's nothing really to compete over.

I'd like to have some sort of tag so it just doesn't say Members underneath our picture. Not a helpful member tag or anything like that, just one for fun. In my Mickey Mouse forums I used to go to a while back lol, everyone got a tag of a Disney character. It would change to different characters depending on your number of posts. So it served no purpose but I thought it was cute. We could have something like that with ME and DA characters. I'd like a Nug one.

Yeah, the forum I moderate does this as well, when you hit like 1000 posts your tag changes. I think you can even change it yourself after a certain amount of posts.

I see this as more likely. Using tags for funsies, rather than trying to make them helpful. I lurk a wrestling forum that uses tags all somewhat based on Scott Steiner and whether or not he pays attention to you, hahaha. But thats based on post count, and I don't think the forums here need tags based on post counts. I know of other forums, the paid ones, that let you change it to whatever because you, well, paid for it. That won't happen here(hopefully).

I'd really like to have this implemented here just to see how everyone would react when they reached the Jacob tag. Everyone would try to post as much as possible to get out of that one quickly. I can imagine the tag saying, "Heavy risk.... but the priiiize." Then the next one would be a tag of Miranda's ass or something   Well, it would only be a prize if you liked Miranda.

I think thats exactly why Bioware will never implement tags based on post counts(thank goodness), and why the BSN never allowed a normal member to view their post count(I believe mods and devs could). It would encourage post-farming to get certain tags or in your brilliant case LOSING a tag. hahahaha

Gonna be honest, I totally forgot that existed.

Any time I had a question, I'd ask it here...well, you know. The old forums.

It could work like marking post as helpful.  So visit a forum thread, the helpful posts are highlighted and bumped to the top.  I think you have that already here though.

Personally, I always found tags based on post count pretty useless. Some people always seem to get very competitive as if having a higher post count was some sort of achievement. The Helpful Member tag would be useful, I can imagine, especially if it was given members who beside being helpful also manage to be polite and respectful.

A person is going to be helpful regardless, just saying.

This is sort of the way that I see it too.
