I'm surprised by all the irritation at the existence of mods people disagree with.

To be fair, they are ridiculous mods. Sure, everyone's got their own preferences but changing a character's skin colour so that some people can feel more comfortable is pretty disturbing. The irritation is justified.

I don't talk about it too much, unless someone else brings it up.  Other than the Bethany mod (which makes my brain go WHY GOD, WHY?!?) to each their own.

Oh, the quote system no longer automatically makes pyramids that people will not rid themselves of.  Thank goodness.

It wasn't directed to you in particular, but I read to about page five and White Isabella is apparently all the rage.

Don't worry, we moved on from that.  We're been talking about the possibilities of Vivienne's backstory. :D

And I hear ya about the quote system.

Ah, you posted while I was posting.  How do I edit in this strange new system?

Not any more so than the mods that change characters classes (or specialization), sexual orientation, or into various other models to begin with.

She doesn't have to be ethnically Rivaini. Just because darker skinned Thedosians tend to come from Rivain doesn't necessarily mean that they all hail from there.

Of course I agree, her ancestors could have been living in the Donarks jungles for all we know, or hailing from one the islands in the north.

@who  From what I gathered, equipping the companions with various armor will vary their look.  I don't think there's going to be a way to change it completely.

Just as long as I can get rid of that hat it will be fine :D

Blue, what do you think of Vivienne thus far?  Or do you have an opinion yet?

I can't have an opinion on a character I'm not familiar with.  However, if what I've read in this topic is true, I'm not going to like her.  Orlais characters who have been heavily involved in The Game have not been very interesting so far.

I'm not sure how involved with The Game she really is, other than enough to stay in one piece.  She may have earned a nickname at court, but I can't tell if she's actively trying to play The Game or was just surviving it.

Hopefully our Inquisitor gets something to ensure her loyalty or she's optional, because I'm not so sure I want an uncontrolled manipulator in the party.  Don't get me wrong, I realize that she would most likely be very useful in navigating Orlais' political sphere, but if she's survived so long in the Game then she most likely doesn't have anything against throwing us under a bus.  Well, a Thedas-bus.

Fair enough.  I hoping that she doesn't try to throw the Inquisitor under a chariot.  It would be nice to have a younger mage companion (other than Merrill) not try to use the PC for something dark.

Morrigan, Anders...yeah, you know I'm talking to you.

Basically, what, every party mage but Velanna and Wynne use or attempt to use the PC for terrible things?  :wizard:

Very ambiguous character so far. Implied to be big talk and hot tempered while at the same time was going for a first enchanter position, being a circle apologist.

Did she want to keep circles in check or did she want to try and change something once she would be in a position of some power?

Is she happy that the circles broke but is just concerned for her fellow mages well being, or does she want to restore the circles?

No idea.

@Blue Yeah, and it doesn't have to be that way.  I'm hoping that Vivienne is more like Velanna and Wynne in that regard.

Depends, if you consider those things terrible or not.

I wouldn't mind a heavily-involved-in-the-Game companion like Vivienne (as she may or may not be), as long as there is interesting content attached to that premise. An interesting companion quest for her, or maybe she could be useful when encountering the Game yourself.

So how old is Vivienne ? Does anyone know ? This is the only thing that bothers me... Because Cassandra is already at least 38 years old... ( yep, dawn of seeker happened in 9:22, we are in in 9:40, after 18 years )

I think Vivienne is something like Cassandra age wise. Somewhere 34-38

Well, SW:tOR has official, in game ways of customising NPC's skin colour to your liking.  And it's not like Bioware's hasn't changed NPC appearances themselves.

Aren't we past 9:40. I thought I read somewhere that we're 10 years after the end of ][. Could be wrong though.
Well, to me, from what we've seen, Vivienne doesn't look all that old. However, as we know she almost became First Enchanter when the Circles were disbanded, she has to be around 30, I feel.

The devs have kept it very vague about the ages of the companions, probably on purpose.  My guess, like Kain's, is about mid 30s for Vivi.

That does tie into why I love this series.  Many of the companions and heroes are in their mid 20s-late 30s (except for Wynne, which I put around 60,) and it's so nice.  I played JRPGs for years, and I still do.  I enjoy them, but I do get tired of the "teenager saves the world" trope that JRPGs (and a lot of anime) have driven into the ground.

It has been only ~3 years since the end of DA2; Varric's interogation took place in 9:37 Dragon.  The events of the entire game (from the very start til the interrogation) is over a 10 year time span.

As far as in Inquisition, I think we're at 9:41 Dragon at this point, as Asunder takes place in late fall of 9:40.

Actually, none of them do. Except arguably Anders.

Anyway, regarding Vivienne... well, clearly my ethical code about genetics not determining allegiance means that she can't be a traitor simply for that, but I will be irked if she turns out to be Fenris with magic. Though I wish we knew more about what "pro-Circle" meant.

Teenagers are the most level-headed and emotionally capable individuals though! Only they can save the world! Embrace your inner wangst!

:wizard:

Wasn't Viv the next in line to become First Enchanter or something? Wouldn't that mean she would have to be relatively old? Well, 30s at least.

There is one reason I prefer playing young characters over older ones and that is - less predetermined background.

When you play older heroes you have a huge chunk of their past lives that hunts them and that you had no control over, and they are less your own characters.

However if there was a solid, lengthy questionnaire during character creation about all the major points in characters life for me to fill in the gaps with their actions, and those answers would have meaning and impact the game, then I could enjoy playing older characters more.

I'm already aware of what could be her personality and I'm not at all afraid of that. My LI were Ashley, Miranda, Morrigan... I loved anora. This isn't what could ****** me off.I don't even hate Petrice, actually I quite like her.

I despise only stupid, irrational, naïve female characters, and she doesn't seem that way at all. So do not worry about me.

Wait...There's some that exists the "likes" Petrice?

That's a thing?
