In the event that Vivienne isn't a romance option I'd at least like a humorous let down conversation. IE "You're cute, but I'm completely out of your league." being the potential hero of Thedas might work on any barmaid from here to Par Vollen but Viv has higher standards.

Vivienne doesn't settle for those beneath her.  :P

My friend drew me and Orlesian bird wearing a beret (long story) and it reminded me of Vivienne, specifically the turnip part omg plus i'm so overtired

In the event that Vivienne is an LI I'd find it funny if her affectionate nickname for a Ferelden Inquisitor was Turnip. Based upon her letter it seems like her calling someone "dear" or "darling" happens when she doesn't really care for someone.

If that's true, she doesn't like Cassandra because I believe she calls her darling.

I didn't get the impression from that video that she disliked Cassandra. I believe it's more likely that her use of "dear" in that letter to a Nevarran ambassador was supposed to be sarcasm.

I've always been of the opinion that calling people "dear" and "darling" is a quirk of Vivienne's that she uses for everyone. It's a little demeaning of the subject, a little haughty, and smacks of a sense of superiority I think is apparent in the tone Vivienne would take with anyone she meets.

I love just everything about Vivienne. From her design to her personality (as much as we've seen so far) and her everything. I do have a minor hope that we can romance her. Or at least develop a very deep friendship with her. So gorgeous. So perfect.

What, if I may ask, about her personality do you find likeable?

Sure. So far, we've basically just had the letter and a few snippets here and there about her personality. I really enjoyed reading the letter. The way she so thoroughly just tells that dude to not act like a drunken fool, casually tosses out that he's so far back in the line of succession as to not need to be in it at all, and reminds him that she could destroy him in such a delightfully  worded way that you can't help but grin. Just her manner of speaking. The way she's clearly knows how to maneuver politics to get her position. The way she dresses is just another aspect of it. I love the aggressiveness displayed in her clothing choices. She's powerful and she takes no ****. I love that. She also has no qualms demonstrating that fact. She's not at all passive or submissive. But, she can play to it if need be. Ruthless yet savvy. I just love all of it.

Not to say she's going to be a nice person or even someone whose ideology I'll agree with, but I bet anything I'll enjoy her anyhow.

I agree with Darth Krytie. I like a lot how Vivienne seems to be written, though my first Inquisitor might not get along with her.

Interesting. For me, mere strength of personality doesn't impress me on its own, given that we more or less always have it with companions, and Vivienne seems to pair it with personal qualities that are primarily repugnant to me.

Oh, I often enjoy characters I don't necessarily agree with if they're striking and interesting. I enjoyed Meredith, though I tended to disagree with her on most things. What's the word I'm looking for...I find them incredibly dynamic.

It's just...I love that Vivienne signs her letter Madame de Fer instead of her name. She embraces the moniker that I highly doubt she gave herself. Instead of having it something whispered behind her back, she owns it. I enjoy that.

I can enjoy them as characters... but I sort of doubt I'd have enjoyed Meredith as a compatriot. Not that she would ever have been one to begin with. It remains to be seen whether Vivienne will actually go against me.

Also, given all of the various titles that Orlesian nobles tend to attach to themselves, I wouldn't be at all surprised if she did choose it herself. The title itself is complimentary; when the Soviets said it about Margaret Thatcher, they were trying to say "Iron Maiden," and there was a translation flub (that might have inflated her reputation, so bah).

Hopefully, it's a question to be answered...whether she came up with it or if it was gifted upon her.

I don't know that I'd enjoy Meredith either as a party member. But I was surprised by Loghain...on the two playthroughs I added him... If we took the red lyrium out of the picture, perhaps I would have at least liked to have delved into her perspective in greater detail. (I'm always sad that learning more about her was restricted to that one Templar playthough I did).

I anticipate there will be friction between my Inquisitor and Vivienne, actually, because I tend not to be pro-circle...but we'll see how it'll all play out. She's the character I'm most excited to meet. (I adore Cassandra as well, but we sort of already met her.)

I think I'll like her for the frankness that has been implied. Sort of like Morrigan, but without the obfuscation.

That and that I haven't disliked any character written by Mary Kirby as of yet.

I agree.  I can't see my Dalish Inquisitor getting along with her AT ALL.  But I find Vivienne potentially the most interesting companions at this point (and most interesting relationship with my Inquisitor, though it will probably be similar to a rival path if there's anything like that).

I heard it said that most of the companions will be optional (I think eluvianix might know the source for that, if I recall correctly), so I assume you can opt not to recruit Vivienne, or any companion that you feel may clash with your protagonist's ideology and motives in the narrative, or a character you're concerned may even oppose your Inquisitor's goals. I get the feeling only Cassandra and Varric will be mandatory, but it's too early to tell for certain. Given her apparent alliance with Celene and her supposed pro-Chantry controlled Circle stance, it's possible either reason may be tied into recruiting her, for players who want to pursue those avenues with their respective Inquisitor.

Damn, I'd have to dig for that source, although I do feel that you are correct. I agree that for the most part, it seems Cass and Varric will be very important and you can't get rid of them. As to the rest, they will mostly be optional.

Gaider stated that (most companions optional or dismissable) in the old BSN. I woudn't bet that Vivienne is optional though. If the others are optional, it woudn't still count as most of companions.

If Cassandra and Varric are travelling together, they might both be neutral by the time they encounter the protagonist. I can see that as a means of avoiding stepping on the player's toes, if the two are mandatory companions.

Why do you think Vivienne is mandatory?

I don't think Vivienne would be necessarily mandatory. I said I woudn't be sure on her not being it.
We know that most of the companions won't be mandatory, but we don't know the exact number, and they might have chosen one per class to be mandatory. I think it's better to not expect her to be optional, to not be disappointed if she'll turn out to be mandatory.
