As the title says. Or maybe she had a tan, looking at the video her skin complexion seems to be darker than isabella.

Changed thread title as this has evolved into and is now a full thread discussion about all things Vivienne, not just about her skin tone

Knowing the Bioware modding community there will be mods to turn her white within an hour of release, just like with Isabella.

While that may be, I'd prefer to simply keep the discussion relevant (and more positive) which is, I think at this point, just a thread about Vivienne.

EDIT: I think it'd be good to not deviate too much about what the mod community will or will not do with Vivienne (or other characters).

Fair enough. A topic title change would be nice in that case though, lol.

So, has it been revealed to which fraternity she was a part of before the split. Aequitarian seems to be the best fit.

Fair enough.

Updated the title.

Mary is not above telling you what Vivienne is allergic to, and what she most dreads getting as a Christmas present.

She is allergic to Fereldan fashions. And there's nothing she dreads getting as a Wintersend present because she arranges for those privileged enough to see her for the holidays to select gifts for her from an approved list. Also her shoes are an amazing array of gold-encrusted boots made from rare animals, and possibly the skins of one or two of her political rivals.

Including the noble clothes?

I was mostly kidding.  To be honest, I like Fereldan fashion, because it is similar to my real life look; practical and comfy.  Particularly since I live where the weather does get quite cold.  I'm always willing to trade comfort for fashion.  Besides, out of the two lands, at least Fereldan fashion doesn't hurt my eyes.

Including the noble clothes?

I agree and with that I appreciate your willingness to end that particular tangent.  It's not really relevant and I agree that it's not up to anyone else to determine what are suitable justifications for you liking a character.

This is a 25 word thread that could be answered in one word: yes. How is any of this on topic?

Because I changed the topic name some time ago to "Let's talk Vivienne."

Feel free to vacate the thread if it bothers you.

Why wouldn't they be reliable?

The game informer stuff is older than the demo, she was revealed in the game informer stuff and this is actual gameplay from an even earlier build than the pax stuff and it shows her in the party at level 2 along with the grey warden and "Serra".

Games aren't necessarily built (nor tested) in a linear fashion though.  I've run around through the epilogue levels at level 1.

The epilogue levels you say... *Ponders*

Super secret spoilers, but our game narrative does indeed have an ending!

Keep this between you and I though!

I really doubt that BioWare would turn such a thing into a running joke. So far, their running gags have been more breaking of the fourth wall or a funny event that seems to happen repeatedly across the series, like Sandal mysteriously dispatching bunches of powerful enemies at once.

I have no idea where the lisp idea came from. Vivienne does not have a lisp.

(I'm editing the title of this post and removing the "Formerly Is Vivienne Black" part because it's scoped far beyond that and it's not necessary to have in the title now).

YAY!! You guys saw the Character Kit! I ran to this thread (even before tweeting it) as soon as I got out of my meeting to make sure you guys knew <3

*hands on chin*

What do you guys think about the details on her clothing and how that might speak to her character?

Dem lips son! That hat wouldn't happen to removable right?

There are different appearances for her. Some have different hats, some have no hat...but I'm not sure which appearances will be available in the final game. So I won't promise no hat, but there are at least variations.

Since Bioware doesn't put all character writing on a single person, and has been known to split romance writing from character writing, the fact that David Gairder writes/wrote two companions and two romances doesn't mean that the two characters he wrote were the same romances- there are four elements at play. He can write characters A and B while writing romances C and D.

That has never been done, as long as I've been at Bioware. It may have happened on BG2, but that was before my time. The writer that handles the character writing also handles the romance for that character. The only time when another writer might write lines for a character that is not theirs is in plot writing or banter writing, but the main writer for that character will usually do a pass on those lines to make sure it is consistent with the character's voice.

Of course, it all depends on the person. All I'm saying is I'll love for a rugged, bearskin-wearing Fereldan to show her how some people fail to grasp what is "fab" about her clothes and only see them as an uncomfortable, impractical mess. No one has ever died because of a few blows to their ego xD.

Perhaps you'll have to ask the Fereldan as Vivienne retorts with fabulous sass? :)

People, man or woman, should look and dress however suits their personal tastes. If this is really what Vivienne enjoys as opposed to something she does just as part of The Game, then more power to her. If she does just do it as part of the game, she's a tool.

And in either case, it doesn't mean I have to find it appealing or take it seriously.

You certainly don't have to find it appealing.

But is it worth the risk to not take it seriously? ;)

I may be alone in this, but I don't find Vivienne the least bit intimidating. She wants to dress like a clown, I will treat her like a clown, and if she tries this Iron Lady crap on me, I will use her severed head, clown hat and all, as a decoration in my fortress.

Sounds like you're already underestimating her! :)

*snip*

No worries.  I was in a crusty mood and a combination of another things had you be the straw that broke the camels back.

In retrospect, while some people may enjoy the teasing, attempting to do so with someone who isn't particularly interested isn't the smartest decision in the world.  More just misread the exchange to start.  Combined with my own biases (I'm the person that media blackouts the games I play), I have trouble relating to the conclusions people draw when context is lacking because it's not something I do.

I also have to remember that I know more about the characters than others, and while I didn't write/create any of them specifically, I still already have the ones that I consider favourites based on things that no one else knows about so the comparison is unfair.

In any case, I do apologize to the thread in general for my mini outrage.

She might be the first mage companion in DA I actually enjoy having in my party. I hope for a female Edwin Odesseiron, heehee.

Ah Edwin, satisfying both male and female mage at times :P

I love the half smirk!

EDIT: Also, it's possible that they are iterating on details like eye colour.  I kind of like the white iris from the new trailer as they convey a sense of almost electric power to me.  Brown eyes always look nice to me, however, so I have little stake in it :P

They really changed her eyes color?

It looks horrible , it looks like she has contact lenses :o

I'm just basing it on what I see in the same images that you see.  Does it look like they changed her eye colour?  It does to me.  Will it stay that way?  I don't know.  But I like the look both ways too.  They are different and convey different things to me when I look at them.
