Anders in Awakening was an apostate.

Flemeth is a maleficar.

Morrigan is an apostate who is most likely a maleficar.

Nope. According to both gameplay and conversations, neither Flemmeth or Morrigan uses blood magic (unless you teach it to Morrigan, but I doubt that's canonical). Flemeth is an abomination, but so is Wynne, so either they're both maleficar or neither is.

Why, you don't know anything about her character. You must really like ebony girls :/

Uhhhhh, no? I know enough about her to really like her.. but ok lol....?

I'm pretty sure she's from Montsimmard, since it seems to be clarified that she was First Enchanter (and not just in line to become one) before the events of Asunder.

Yeah, that's what I'm assuming as well. I hope she is because I'd like to get more insight on the other Circle.

Vivienne doesn't have an accent at all. At least if by accent we're referring specifically to Orlesian. Her VA was using a British accent rather than French.

She kind of had a tiny twist on it though, which is what I'm assuming the Orlesian coming out.

I doubt the term differentiates sex magic from blood magic, and if Flemeth does body hop, that probably falls under it as well.

The chantry probably doesn't differentiate, but then, they can't tell a spirit warrior from a mage.

No, you don't. You don't know what her personality is like, you don't know her opinions on most issues, all you know is that she's pro-circle and she likes crazy hats.

1.) How are you going to tell me the amount of information that I need to know about a character in order to want [said character] romanceable?

2.) I don't need to explain what I know about her to justify my desire to romance her.

and with that, I'm done with this conversation.

I agree and with that I appreciate your willingness to end that particular tangent.  It's not really relevant and I agree that it's not up to anyone else to determine what are suitable justifications for you liking a character.

Alistair and Wynne both call Morrigan a maleficar, which was my point. Both characters outright refer to her as such in their dialogue with the protagonist. Regardless of the semantics of the definitions between apostate and maleficar, it appears both companions view her as such. That's basically what I'm pointing out when I say it's possible Vivienne might view a Vashoth or Dalish protagonist as such, given the two racial options will likely have the main character using magic that is outside the scope of what's taught at the Chantry controlled Circle.

This is a 25 word thread that could be answered in one word: yes. How is any of this on topic?

Because I changed the topic name some time ago to "Let's talk Vivienne."

Feel free to vacate the thread if it bothers you.

I believe it's Morrigan and Flemeth's ability to shapeshift that may account for their being referred to as maleficarum, though this is a bit of a misnomer anyway.

Cleaned up the thread some more.

If you have issues with my attempts to keep this thread civil, send them via PM rather than derailing the thread further.

I love Vivianne's outfit, everything about her looks so ornate and sumptuous. I love it all from the top of her crazy mage hat to the gold on her boots! I really like that she is so visually distinct from the circle mages we've seen before. I've grown a bit tired of the mage robes over the last 2 games.

I think the cosplayers are going to have a field day with her and I can't wait to see what they come up with.

Vivienne is the character from the three revealed companions thus far that I'm most interested in getting to know. Not to say I won't enjoy Varric or Cassandra, it's just that the little info on Vivienne that we have sounds very appealing to me. I think she's going to be a blast to play save to world from it's bitter end with.

I don't think the whole 'apostate' thing is going to be an issue considering that Circles no longer exist. Essentially all mages are now apostates since they've abandoned The Chantry. I can still see Vivienne resisting or being averse to certain forms of magic due to her biases but doesn't really have anything to stand on considering that all mages are in the same boat now, blood magic or not.

Whether Morrigan is a maleficar isn't really my point. Even if she is, that still doesn't mean that every foreign mage is.

What does everyone think the probability is of Vivienne being a LI? I hope she is.

I'm also hoping for Vivienne, but not much more. I remain terribly cautious, avoiding me to find myself terribly disappointed as I saw it was the case for many people with Aveline. Of course if she's an Li, you'll see me squeeing like a little girl.

Like: AAAAAAAAAH!

Otherwise it's she 'Is not an Li, then, I will simply be glad to be her friend.  :)

Does this mean she will have the firm, round bottom that I am so very fond of?

Yeah, I feel if they continue down the route of 2 LIs of each gender, the female LIs will be Cassandra and Sera. I would really like to romance her, she'd be perfect for when I came to my human mage, and she's number two on my list of dream LIs for Inquisition, (not that I'd actually say it to her face lest she stab me in my face).

Really? I see the two being Vivienne and Sera myself and Cassandra would take the nonromance route. But that's assuming they will only do two of each gender.

Well I think Gaider explicitly stated on his blog he's written two Inquisition LIs. Though I'd love her to be one, the numbers just don't look good for our beautiful, fabulous, sassy, potentially bald Vivienne.

Then again, if they did three of each gender........!

Hey, they did it in Mass Effect 2.

If there was a possibility to shape somehow inquisitor's background, my first playthrough would be as a character very similar to Vivianne (but as PC with significantly less background references than NPC). So... yeah, she's going to die VERY soon.

I sincerely doubt she won't be an LI. She seems like the kind of person that is attracted to powerful people, and the inquisitor fits the bill. I imagine some races might have a harder time than others though.
