Enchanter to the Imperial Court

 

CONQUER EVERYTHING WHILE LOOKING fabulous—such is the way of Vivienne.

 

Ever poised and composed, Madame de Fer is never out of her element. What little armor she allows herself is cleverly hidden, and save for the rolled edges of her breast plate, there’s little evidence of the hard steel beneath. The cuirass is wrapped in linen overlaid with strips of silk, bringing the elegance of a ball gown to the battlefield. 

 

Pearls and white gold cover her from head to toe, and to see her out in the wild one can’t help but feel that the trees are underdressed.

 

 

 

To Vivienne, there are no impractical clothes, only impractical people. Her magnificent attire is a sign of her station, the jewel of the high court of Orlais where wealth, power, and beauty are inextricably linked.

A thousand arrows would pierce her breast before Vivienne would don beaten steel for so base an urge as protection. If one must wear armor, then have it flatter the form. Hide it beneath fine fabrics more becoming of one’s status, for steel alone will not protect you from the barbed tongues of Orlais.
To dress for comfort or purpose is a scandal—fashion and splendor are all that matter to Vivienne. Shower yourself in gold, let only the finest silks grace your skin, and wear a king’s ransom in pearls and silver upon your feet. Leave the stained tunics and rough cloaks to the commoners and their mud farms–a proper Orlesian climbs mountains in her evening gown, standing taller at the summit in her formidable high-heeled shoes.

 

 

Also, her nickname in French is Madame de Fer - the Iron Lady.

ohmygosh, she IS stunning. I wonder what "Enchanter to the Imperial Court" means. Was she, I dunno, stationed at court? What does that mean about her station in the Circle? Was she part of the White Spire? Inquiring minds want to know!

I'm not quite sure, but it's very possible that my hatred is rising. I do hope there's more to her than "astoundingly classist, snobby, tacky and decadent Morrigan."

 

Also, I think she looked better in the concept art.

Good point. I'm looking forward to understanding all the "next in line, no already is First Enchanter" confusion. It would be interesting if she were Celene's court mage, running around with her during the war, and then Asunder happens and suddenly there's no Circle to come home to. On the other hand, she sounds like the sort of character who might prefer being at court regardless. Hmm...

I get the impression that she is complicated! I get the feeling my character may clash with her also. I am sooooooooooo excited to meet her she seems amazing.

She's trying too bloody hard and her arrogance is all-consuming, is my guess.

I'm thinking she's extensively reinvented herself. The 'barbed tongues of Orlais' makes me think she was initially looked down on for some reason, possibly for her not being Orlesian? Her accent seems proof of that, if the PAX demo is to be believed. So I think she's Ferelden, Rivaini, or some other nationality, came to Orlais and then changed her name herself. Which would fit in with the having no last name thing, or ' none she admits to'.

I always thought it was a bit strange that they were talking about her getting ruthlessly involved in politics and The Game - I mean, surely even in Orlais First Enchanters don't or can't meddle in politics or have much of a social life outside the Circle? Irving seemed like the bookish type. 

 

But if she's actually a court enchanter and maybe an advisor to Celene or people close to her, that would explain why Vivienne has allies and enemies to contend with.

I love the costume design. Her staff even looks a little like an imperial sceptre.

She's fabulous, fantastic, fierce, a fashionista, elegant, classy, and meticulous.

Vivienne is a Queen and she needs to be romanced by me so I can tell her how beautiful she is all the time and buy her expensive clothes.

Is that the Seeker eye in the silk lining pattern?

 

I really like how fancy her outfit is while still not being totally impractical. It looks easy to maneuver in and the "hidden" breastplate looks perfect.
