Was it the part where I said I wasn't concerned about seeing populations move, or the part about England and France that confused you?
I guess you did not get it either.

That makes no sense. Humans have been in Thedas for a couple thousand years; they came from the north, which is closer to the equator. 'Whiteness' in the real world took about 38,000 years to develop. If anything, the majority of people in Thedas should be dark skinned.
That they have pale skin suggests 1) the developers didn't realize how long it takes for that phenological trait to manifest and spread in a population or 2) that some tribes were already white and they just happened to settle in specific areas.
In either case, the skin coloring of people in Orlais seems to be based on authorial desire. Unless you know what the authors want, how can you say what's exceptional and what's not?
Going off of the fact that people from Southern climes ie Ferelden and Orlais are predominantly white and the farther north you go the darker the skin gets, I'd say the devs didn't pay proper attention to the gradual shift to lighter skin color that happened in Europe, which is also the subject of much debate, that 38000 years figure is not universally accepted by any measure.
The Viking got to the Americas even before any train and who knows who before that. Also I live in Europe and I know my history and believe me boats are great!
Well, China had ships reach the coast of California decades before Columbus, and there was that clan of Hebrews that arrived around 600 BC.

That came up a surprise. I thought she was white! Hah!
Well, it matters not! Isabella is still Isabella, and that's how I like her.
Doesn't matter to me. I'm just looking forward to her dialogue and wondering what use her mad magic skills will be to my Inquisitor!
Okay Hana, I'm asking you for a source for that information.

Ha! My thoughts exactly. ![]()
I haven't even had it in my heart to rival Isabela. I know it makes her into a better person, but I've always liked her for who she is. Faults and all.
I hope that Vivi is even half as fun as Bela.

Well the China bit was made popular by quack-historian Gavin Menzies who has an extreme hard on for China, the other bit, thats Mormon doctrine iirc

Something tells me she won't be as easy to bed. ![]()
All the more fun for us! The more I get turned down the more I can relate to my character as a real person!

I don't understand how this thread has more than a single page
"Is she black?"
"Yes"
"Thx."
done.

What? China has maps from the early 1400s that depicted a continent to the East of them. Unless they somehow passed the Americas and made it to the West coast of Europe and Africa, what they found was the Americas.

Book of Mormon.
Inb4 any Mormon bashing.
@Han Okay, I apologize, but I'm not taking a holy book as historical fact. I never do, so let's call that story a legend. As far as China goes, can I please have a source link for that? I'm not trying to give you a hard time; I'm just a history nut and I love learning more.
@Astus: The mods said it was fine if we continue to discuss Vivienne as a character, so that's why the thread is still going.
*Edit: I'm not going to give anyone crap for their beliefs. So long as you don't push it on me, I'm cool.

And there are European maps with Atlantis on them and Australia connected to Antarctica, your point?

Damn.
Opened my heart to you and no sympathy gained.
Ugh! Bunch of sociopaths I'm dealing with ><

I respect that, and thank you for being much more respectful than some would be. And do not worry, I do not push beliefs on anybody.

Toushe.

The point is that you cannot assume anything when it comes to history, there is always contradictions on something. Just like assuming that you cannot find a large concentration of people other than white at Europe in Medieval times or even before that. And after.

Its like talking to ITers all over agian
@Han: No worries; I'm an agnostic myself. So long as you believe in being good to people, doing random acts of kindness and leaving the world a better place, you're fine by me.
I wonder what kind of mage specialization that Vivi is going to start with. It looked like she was casting the fireballs in the demo, but I couldn't tell if that was her or if that was supposed to be the PC. I figured fire would suit her personality. I wish I could guess more, but right now specializations haven't been released. If Force magic is still around (overpowered as it is, I can't see it,) then I think Vivi would be a fire/force mage. I'm not sure why I have that impression, I just do. ![]()

Finally! I was waiting for a snarky comment to make fun of me.
What the hell took you guys so long?
Thanks for the lol! Night night ![]()

Yeah, I see Vivienne being the damage dealing mage, like Morrigan and Merrill.
For Vivi, it isn't just damage dealing magic, it's fire. I keep picturing fire every time I see her. In any case, it makes more sense for her to "pew pew" than be a healer. It does make me wonder who her foil is going to be (i.e Wynne and Morrigan, Anders and Merrill) but that's getting off topic. I still can't believe that someone managed to make those silly fashions from Orlais look good.
