I imagine some non-Orlesian Inquisitors will have precisely that reaction about most of Orlesian culture and attire, given their extravagant tastes (or their extreme tastes, depending on your mileage).

From what I've read so far of The Masked Empire most of the nobility wear masquerade-style half masks in public to hide their expressions of discomfort that comes with wearing Orlesian finery.

I'm not easy to shock. I can, however, be sometimes easily angered, and this is more what I feel happened.
Well, the anti-Xil tendencies in me have made me more and more inclined to give Vivienne a chance.

Warden Loghain was alive in Act III of Dragon Age II, so it's not implausible. He's a tough Fereldan. As for the civil war, I'd love to see his reaction to it, although I'd imagine the Wardens would remain neutral.
I recall TEWR suggesting Loghain punching a chevalier and riding a horse back to Ferelden if the nobles attempted another invasion of their neighbor, which was another amusing mental image.

An Orlais united under a strong military leader with a focus on returning the Empire to its "glory days" could likely lead to a second invasion of Ferelden.
If I had to guess, I'd say that Vivienne is on the Celene side of the equation. We don't know much about her background, but the Empress seems to run a meritocracy when it comes to her advisers. If Celene saw something in Vivienne and brought her up to her position in court then that could explain why she's ultra-Orlesian.
