First update on Vivienne!

Vivienne_004-1024x576.jpg

"Referred to as Madame de Fer, “the Lady of Iron”, Vivienne lives up to her title. A leader among the mages and official enchanter to the Imperial court, she is renowned as a fearsome woman who achieved her position through guile and deft political maneuvering. Vivienne allows nothing to stand in the way of what she desires—not those who claim she is a social climber, not those who seek to restrict her power, not even her fellow mages who would conscript her into a rebellion with which she disagrees. Vivienne fights to restore order in a world gone mad…so long as that leaves her among those left standing, once all is said and done."

More next Wednesday!

Every scrap of news I hear about her just makes me love her more. I need her as an LI!

That is extremely interesting, since it basically gives away her stance on the Mage-Templar War.

She looks like Queen Latifah.

No way I can take her seriously while doing the horizontal mambo with her in-game.

Maybe not Queen Latifah.

With her outfit, maybe a black Lady Gaga.

Come on Bioware. I know mage outfits have always been weird in DA games, but you're just going insane now.

Nah, nothing Gaga-esque about that. She gives me major Rutina Wesley vibes though.

And is the anti-rebellion stance a surprise? I thought that was old news.

We knew that she's pro-Circle, we didn't know she was that against the mage rebellion. And it seems she supports the re-establishment of the previous Circle system as it was, more or less.
She seems more ruthless of what was suggested, since it seems she'd be willing to stop the mages by force.
I really like her as a character, though I see how my PC could've problems with her methods.

I know, it's kind of the point of her character that she's providing the moderate, pro-Circle view.

Do remember that this is Orlais, so of course it's all gonna be over the top.

Maker, she's beautiful!

She reminds me too much of my GW (being pro-circle, ruthless and all that) but with much more awesome background. Yup, she dies  <_<

Being Pro-Circle and anti-rebellion isn't the same thing?

Am I the only one who doesn't find her attractive?

She sounds like a great character but I don't really think she's incredibly beautiful or anything.

The one thing I do like about her is her pro-circle/anti-rebellion position, partly because it's a POV we didn't have in DA2 and partly because it makes sense.

The only thing Viveinne seems to care about is her own power base and personal advancement.

She was able to rise to arguably the highest position of power a mage can hope to achieve outside Tevinter; the court of the ruler of one of the most powerful nations in the world, and she did it under the rules and restrictions of the circle system.

The dissolution of that system and the chaos caused by the rebellion poses a very real threat not only to the power she's already accumulated, but to the very way of life in which she knows how to thrive. Her future, her power, her position, and her authority are all very uncertain in the mage rebellion, so it makes perfect sense to me that she would oppose it.

Not necessarily. Both terms carry different nuances and varying shades.

Cassandra fights demons and blood mages for a living, she wears plate mail. Viv plays the game of Orlais, where elaborate finery and charisma serves in place of steel. She's also a mage in a position that most of her colleagues could only dream of, and when most of Thedas fears people like you why not play the part?

People could easily dismiss a regular robe wearing court enchanter, but nobody's going to mess with one who dresses like a noble has an iron will and is rumored to wear the skins of her enemies as footwear. We don't know much of her history, but the Circle and the court are the two biggest things that define her and all of a sudden they're gone. Keeping the trappings of her time in court is a way for her to cope.

Also the first Follower Profile is up.

Not necessarily. A mage for the mage rebellion can support a Circle system that is different or unrelated to the Chantry system.

Good point.

But it could also mean that she's in it for herself under the guise of the betterment of her fellow mage. That is, she enjoys her position of power and without the mages corralled to their circles she just might find herself without it.

But they can also push for that constitutionally, therefore being anti-rebellion.

Possible, though she's a mage in the court, so she'd still have power.
The blog still refers her as a leader for them, and the mages seem to want to have her in the rebellion for her power and influence (most likely).

Oh, I agree. My point is that with the Pro-Circle line we had so far it wasn't possibly to be sure of her stance about the rebellion. The blog clarified it.

I'm just wondering when the "not at all like Wynne" part is going to kick in during her Character introduction/arch. She has power, she is pro-circle, but not like Wynne and a machiavellian...She will most definitely be a wild card in the conflict.
