Omg, is she stereotypical, is it incidental, is this lore supported, is this plot demanded, what was the agenda, what is her purpose, how fast will she put out, what is her class, is she classy, is that expression scornful or righteous, is she going to be healer or destroyer, did she miss her parents growing up, what is her favorite color, does she like sunsets or fireplaces and what is her favorite spell.
You know...one can't rest unless they know all that, can they?

Merrill: Well, there is no such thing as a good spirit and I don't trust him.
Anders: You work with demons!
Merrill: The spirit helped didn't it?

Merrill: No, I only care about my people.
Anders: But you used blood magic!
Merrill: And you willingly became an abomination. Hypocrite.

Merrill: No, I keep the spirit's relationship strictly platonic. <mutters Unlike you>.
And round and round they go. I'm not siding with either party in this case, just giving a summation of the majority of their dialog. I thought they were the foil for each other; A Dalish blood mage and a half-crazed human abomination.

I was going to reply, but you posted your second part before I could. As for the snarky post, I just did it more to cheer you up with humor.
For Vivi, it isn't just damage dealing magic, it's fire. I keep picturing fire every time I see her. In any case, it makes more sense for her to "pew pew" than be a healer. It does make me wonder who her foil is going to be (i.e Wynne and Morrigan, Anders and Merrill) but that's getting off topic. I still can't believe that someone managed to make those silly fashions from Orlais look good.
She also uses Ice, so I see her as the Elemental/Destruction Mage. As for her foil, that is a good question. Perhaps someone who was Anti-Circle since Vivienne is Pro-Circle.

@Zerox We're discussing Vivienne as a character, which according to a mod that was in here, is perfectly a-okay. Most of the thread hasn't been bickering and fighting (for once!) mainly just chatting about our pro-Circle mage friend.
Anders in DA2 is all about mage freedom, his foil should at least tie into that, Merrill doesn't, she's too busy getting her clan killed

Well, a writer responded to you. Which creates the absolutely logical assumption that writers will respond to all Vivienne questions in this thread.
Whether it is about her personality, or her preferences. Or her favorite type of dessert.
I wonder what her shoes look like?
It's weird, but I bet the answer to one question, "Is she romance able?" will probably either increase or nullify peoples' interest in any other questions/matters.

The name of this section of the forums is called "scuttlebutt" for a reason. It's rumors, gossip and speculation regarding Inquisition and this thread qualifies. Personally, I saw Anders's foil sort of being seperated into both Merrill and Fenris. Merrill in regards to blood magic and demons, and Fenris in regards to mage freedom.
As for people to fit the bill, there are buy I doubt they'd be companion characters.

Think back on other bioware conversations. Most lore details, most character exposition, most theoretical discourse has happened in threads that started with a very simple question. The most extensive discussion about the role of magic happened in a thread that started with the simpe question "are those black things Morrigan is wearing, feathers?". Writers were involved in discussing the different lands in Thedas in a thread that started with the question "What do Fereldens eat?".
There is precedence, as long as you are not looking for plot spoilers. They might not tell you what her class is, but Mary is not above telling you what Vivienne is allergic to, and what she most dreads getting as a Christmas present.
You're being childish by insinuating that we're looking for the answers of the writers(i.e tiny details about Vivienne.) We're not and if Mary wants to share, great. If not, that's fine too. I don't care either way, so long as I can chat with other forumites about this.
Do you have anything to add to the actual topic, which has been expanded to include discussing Vivienne?
