I'm not sure: mages with positions like that tend to get a free pass, so to speak. Wynne was allowed to follow the Warden across ferelden unsupervised, for example, and she was only a senior enchanter.

You do realize her being allowed outside of the Circle Either via the First Enchanter or Knight Commander to aid the Gray Wardens in combating a Blight isn't anywhere near the same in principle as allowing Mages out of the tower to assume places at court right? I don't view those two scenario as anywhere near comparable personally.

Also factor in that if Wynne did indeed become an "abomination" in the Warden's care, given they just hacked through a tower full of them, you figure even the Templars would realize the elder mage wouldn't pose over much threat in the Warden's company.

I can't really remember the details about Wynne being allowed to leave the circle- but if the first enchanter has the authority to allow that presumably he has the ability to leave himself. Irving could also take some mages to Redcliffe to help Conor, and Orsino was seen in Kirkwall without Templar's accompanying him.

It's not like a mage being outside of the circle is completely unheard of, though admittedly they are usually accompanied by templars.

Can you people not contain this petty squabbling to the uneven thread? Good grief.

I don't see it as squabbling, just debating how Vivienne managed to attain her position in the Orlesian court.

As I see it, it's that the position of an Imperial court mage is something official in Orlais, through an agreement between the Chantry and Orlais. Vivienne simply earned the position.

Officially, I think Vivienne is just a Court Mage, which, from what Wynne says in Origins, is a position that is permitted. If it were any other nation, Vivienne would just be an advisor. Officially, I think that is her role. Unofficially, however, the Great Game allows her to gain influence through wit, intrigue, and blackmail. Her power would also depend on the Empress' favor, of course. She also has no estate or title beyond being the official enchanter to the Imperial Court. That position is not inherited and, should she have any children, they do not have any claim to it beyond that of any other Circle Mage (assuming they are Mages themselves).

It is a loophole, but I imagine that the Great Game is filled with loopholes that are exploited mercilessly. Celene used one in order to

This is my thinking.

I'm just arguing that the reason why the Templars/Chantry would agree to such a thing is that they can't force the issue.

She's so gorgeous ! T______T

My first line if I learn she'isn't an LI : What the hell is wrong with you Bioware, How could you be so mean ? :o MAKER this is just pre-alpha !!! The details are also amazing in the pic :!!!

I'm so excited I didn't even read all the pages before writing, LOL !

After reading that new little description of Vivienne...

I like her a million times more now. IViv seems like such a fabulous badass lady. She won't take any crap from anyone, not even the Inquisitor. Hope my Quizzy can match her level of fabulous badassery, or at least come close.I also think her reasons for being anti-rebellion will be interesting.

Another thing, appearance may not be everything, but OMG she's gorgeous.

Really interested in seeing what her hair looks like, though. I'd imagine it's really short, can't see her being bald.

THIS ! OMG, she's going to be my best companion ever ! She's so interesting !!!! Can't wait for wednesday

So, it's final, then.

She is an enemy. If she can be forced into submission and act as my servant, that's fine; otherwise, she'll almost certainly be an enemy to last, and will have to die.

We knew you'd love her!

Seriously though, I would suggest maybe you give her a chance, and wait till you meet her in game, before you write her off like that.

I really doubt that she'll ever agree to be a servant .
Plus, for all we know you might just end up disagreeing on the mage issue. We don't know if we can affect the mage-templar war, and so join a side.

I wonder if we absolutely must pick up each of these companions...I'm for certain leaving the counterfeit Isabela in the bar.

Vivienne should be interesting, I see a very strong ally in her. Especially once my PC convinces her to change her position on the mage issue and make her believe that it was her decision to do so.

Bring Court Mage could be similar to how the Council of Mages in the Witcher selects advisors. The Council chooses the most talented and stable of their order to be assigned to the courts of the Northern Kingdoms.

Viv has managed to work her way up through the ranks into the Orlesian Court which is hard enough without being a mage. She might be feared among her rivals but she did have the trust of the Empress.

My question about Fiona's rebellion is what her plan is. Breaking the Circle and starting a war with the Templars doesn't seem like a particularly good way to convince Thedas that mages should be freed. Even if the mages won wouldn't that lead to the mundanes hunting them down out of fear?

No one ever ascused Fiona of being smart, a long term thinker or a good tactician freind.

Also pretty sure the taint rotted her brain.

If it is allowed, of course.

I don't see why it would not. Unless of course they're writing another Hawke as the PC.
