I think Vivienne was raised in Orlais, though her ethnicity is Rivain.  I'm not sure if she was brought there as a little girl or was born there.  Either way, I think her views are going to be more Orlesian than Rivaini.

Thanks!

And I got into trouble with my second post! :P

What do you think? Big changes in lore, huh. Just when I had it all figured out in terms of the Exalted Marches, and the Tevinter Imperium, and the
different attitudes towards mages, they tell me - oh well, all that has changed. Now, I must know more. And Rivain? Secular land where everyone plays well together, or seething pit of communal tension. How did that affect our young Vivienne and her attitudes towards magic.

Promises to be fascinating stuff.

Hey, I just want to know her fav color. ;)

Interesting. But as you said, when did she come there? Was she whisked away to the circle when she was very young? Was she born in Orlais but of "first generation and proud" Rivaini parents and influenced by them.

The reason I keep bringing up Rivain is because characters are also such a fascinating window into lands. My knowledge of Orlais was guided by Leliana and by the GaiderNovels. Zevran was my introduction to Antiva. Ferelden, well...we all spent much of our journey there, and in the Free Marches. Lore has covered Tevinter, and Fenris alludes to a lot of it.

Vivienne and Cassandra are both from lands we know relatively less about. It would be cool to learn more about them through them. If not, I am sure there is good reason, of course. I won't complain.

Is she bald? It would be neat if she lost all her hair due to a fire spell mishap as an apprentice. Since then she's been devoted to improve her skills.

I'd love to see her without a hat if she is bald. Very pretty.

I wonder if her nickname going to be Iron Lady, since I heard that what the dev described her as.

I say she's Afro-Orlesian or black Orlesian.

No, and I'm trying to get my name back, but it won't let me. I got to wait 90 days :/

Just going off of her banter with Cassandra in the PAX demo I'm wondering if a lot of her bravado (or arrogance?) stems from her having the position of First Enchanter pulled out from under her?

Considering that without the Circle, she doesn't really have any of the power that she once held, she could be a little bitter over that fact. She's stuck in the same boat as Cassandra is. It's hard to be the Divine's right hand woman when the Chantry is in shambles.

Considering the nickname the Orlesian court gave her (Madame de Fer), I'd say that what was shown is her true personality.
Anyway, I like her from what we saw. And I like that we got one mage who is pro-mage but pro-Circle too. I like companions to have different stances even if they are on the same side.

She seems to be a damage dealer type, though we should remember that she'll probably have access to all the mage's skill tree, as warriors and rogues have access to all weapons type of their class. We can likely build her as we see fit.

Not necessarily. Merrill in Dragon Age 2 did not have access to the Creation tree, for example.

Yes, but warriors and rogues had access to only one weapon and its tree too. Considering that this restriction is gone, I'd say it'll be the same for mages as well.

Mary is not above telling you what Vivienne is allergic to, and what she most dreads getting as a Christmas present.

She is allergic to Fereldan fashions. And there's nothing she dreads getting as a Wintersend present because she arranges for those privileged enough to see her for the holidays to select gifts for her from an approved list. Also her shoes are an amazing array of gold-encrusted boots made from rare animals, and possibly the skins of one or two of her political rivals.

I already love her. And I love these fun not-so-spoilery little nuggets of information!

Awesome. As I said, I really like her.
Thanks for the info :). Can't wait to meet her in DAI.

It sounds like I'll get along with her.  I think I'm allergic to Fereldan "fashions" too!

I was mostly kidding.  To be honest, I like Fereldan fashion, because it is similar to my real life look; practical and comfy.  Particularly since I live where the weather does get quite cold.  I'm always willing to trade comfort for fashion.  Besides, out of the two lands, at least Fereldan fashion doesn't hurt my eyes.

Yes at least fereldan fashion is practical, orlesian fashion looks like it would flash burn if lit on fire and take the whole building down too.

I was joking as well :D.
I'm curious to see how Vivienne will look if we equip her with a type of armour.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought their look wouldn't change.  I mean, I know we can actually give them armor this time (thanks BioWare!) but I thought it was supposed to keep a signature look for each companion.  Am I misremembering something?
