Nice update.
I wonder if the mage is Solas.
I think that might be the case for a number of reasons, not the least of which could be their drastic ideological differences since Solas is an apostate.

Could those chains mean that she's in Kirkwall? Maybe the red lyrium is from...Meredith?

Granted, from what I see of Vivienne, she might clash explosively more with Solas on the fashion thing than actual ideological differences. She's not an idiot. I feel like she would be able to rationally discuss such things with Solas and other apostates.

She came back to life as a Extra Giant Behemoth lol

You're suggesting that Meredith is the soylent green of the Red Templars?
That letter doesn't do anything to incline me to believe she's going to be a character i like particularly. That may open the door for my first protag to be a mage.

And he clearly has little investment in fashion.

It just reminded me of this concept art, that's all.

Opinions can get heated at times, as the debates on this forum have shown. When you strongly believe in something, it's only natural. As for Vivienne discussing this with the main character, I suppose it's something that's bound to come up with an apostate Inquisitor sooner or later, and if Vivienne is debating this with Solas, the player might be able to chime in and side with one or the other (given what the developers have said about allowing the protagonist to interact with certain conversations).

I would certainly like such an option. I would like to be able to state my own beliefs, and at least participate in the discussion.

Orlesian fashion, in any case. Although I suspect the same will be true for any Inquisitor who isn't from Orlais. ![]()
I've just read the last BioWare blog about Vivienne.
A big thank you to Mary Kirby. Vivienne looks like the kind of character I loved in DA:O (Sten, Morrigan, Shale) and the type of character who was absent in DA2 in my opinion. That's very promising! She'll stay in my team for sure.
Dang, these are some of the sickest burns I have ever read in my life. I can practically feel the pain of that poor Ambassador.
So, basically, Vivienne a perfect example of Lawful Neutral? I mean, literally, she's lawful, but neutral, rather than Good or Evil. Her allegiance is to herself above all, but she's also very focused on order. It's very interesting to have this sort of companion- especially a mage. We had Wynne and Aveline in the past games who also put order and the law as a high priority, but unlike them, whose loyalty to the people around them was a huge part of their character, Vivienne is clearly sort of a lone wolf, plus unlike them she has no concern for honor or what is right or good in the traditional sense. I think that's a very interesting combination, since one usually associates law and order with goodness and honor, but that's not necessarily so.
...I probably make it sound like I think that she's a terrible, selfish person, but that's not what I mean, haha. That said, they did say she cares, above all, that she comes out on top in the end, which is... quite fair, actually. So her top two concerns are order and her well being, which is, again, perfectly fair in my opinion. I think she's someone who is just completely uninterested and pays no attention to ideals or concepts or anything else but the cold, hard truth of the situation and whether it suits her needs and purpose, and doesn't let them influence her decisions. That said, I still think she has a line she'd be unwilling to cross. But pragmatic is the best way to describe the impression I'm getting of her.
And since I'm almost certain Solas is going to be the local idealistic anti-Chantry renegade apostate and I'm almost certain he's the mage referred to, I really look forward to the interactions in question. (Unless unnamed is a third as-of-yet-unrevealed companion mage who most likely does at least exist)
Loved the letter. I was scared xD

You think Inquisition will head to the City of Chains?
I thought I'd have to put Vivienne in her place as her boss, but now I'm not so sure. She has a healthy sense of self preservation, certainly, but she's not stupid; what takes precedence is the order upon which her self preservation depends. Personality differences aside, maybe she won't be so difficult to work with after all (at least for me).

I'd say she sounds lawful evil, myself. Believing in the necessity of order and using it to ensure that she stays on top, regardless of who might be crushed beneath her.
Well her letter is plain mean, the "dear" and "darling" are irritating...it's not like she's writting a letter to an old time nemesis...she never met the dude.
I really don't like that .
She's going to be like Morrigan , I may end up liking her , but that lady is too annoying to have around.
I'd hope she'd be clever when dealing with "ennemies" but this doesn't seem clever to me , it's just plain old bullying , weapon for the weaks.
Oh well I'm still hoping she has valuable ideas about the mages situation.

She's lawful neutral
She's going to be a badass character, antagonizing like Anders I think =)
She's a firecracker, I'll say that.

True. But what is important above all, it's that she avoids the diplomatic and bureaucratic language in that letter, with an ambassador, whether it is desserved or not.
