You certainly don't have to find it appealing.
But is it worth the risk to not take it seriously?
I may be alone in this, but I don't find Vivienne the least bit intimidating. She wants to dress like a clown, I will treat her like a clown, and if she tries this Iron Lady crap on me, I will use her severed head, clown hat and all, as a decoration in my fortress.
I'd say she sounds lawful evil, myself. Believing in the necessity of order and using it to ensure that she stays on top, regardless of who might be crushed beneath her.
What do you think about Vivienne's apparent loyalty to Empress Celene?
She's lawful neutral
As some one who actually is Lawful evil?
I will agree.
Unless if she is willing to do Anything in the playbook to establish whatever her ultimate objective is, she would qualify as lawful neutral.
We know nothing about the Ambassador. He may deserve all of what Viv had to say to him.
Well, she's apparently never met him before, but I don't think it's important if he deserved that Kind of letter or not. It just seems weird to me that Vivienne, someone who should be perfectly familiar with playing the "Game" of the Orlesian Nobility would be this direct and disrespectful. From what I got so far the game seems to be all about intrigues and subtlety and I don't see that in this letter.
I would have expected her to talk like that to a servant or someone without any meaningful rank, but shouldn't an ambassador be somewhat important? Calling someone a drunktard without self respect seems like something you should do behind that person's back.
I find it more intriguing than anything. I didn't expect that either.

Because this guy is so far beneath her it isn't even worth it for her to play with him.

LOL.

But he is not Orlesian Nobility. He is harassing Orlesian Nobility that she wishes to be in favor with. She has no need to play the game with him. And if he's not well liked by most of the Orlesians (considering he wasn't even invited to the party despite his status, that's a good guess) being antagonistic to him is one of the best ways to get their favor.
Am I the only one who is not quite convinced about the "unnamed mage" being Solas?
I'm hoping Dorian is still a character. Two mages of status going at each other would be more entertaining than Vivienne going after poor Solas. Solas isn't anywhere near Vivienne's league, and I'd just feel sorry for the guy.

Getting a tad defensive, Sandybear.

It could be the mage inquisitor even.

Nope. Just calling it how I see it. IMO Celene should feel privileged to be in Vivienne's presence.
In fact, Celene should throw herself at Vivienne's feet so that her body may be used as a stepping stone to prevent Vivienne's pearl encrusted heels from making contact with the unworthy earth.

Actually I read the letter as being an underlying threat to the Nevarran that he didn't want to attend Duke Gaspard's invitation. Gaspard is looking for support and foriegn support from Nevarra would undermine Celene.
Comtesse Montbelliard is the wife of one of Gaspard's supporters I believe. Vivienne's power is currently connected to Celene.

Yeah the letter came across as grandstanding, rather than subtle maneovring.

Is that true? I was going to excuse her rudeness because the Nevarran is not part of the Orlesian Game, in theory (they didn't treat Teagan well, either), but now it seems she plays even better than I thought. Looking forward to knowing what she thinks of the Inquisitor's schemes.

Whatever do you mean, Luvy.
I love everything about Vivienne. Everything. In fact, I couldn't imagine her doing anything in game at this point that would make me dislike her. For me, her fabulous level trumps anything and everything that she could possibly do. Based on her description, I doubt she would do anything that I would even disagree with anyway.

Why a letter has to be subtle to be considered as a great politician ?
Her point seems clearly to threat the ambassador and It 'd work on me.

Not that. I meant Celene's own awesomeness.

Celene's awesomeness?
Hah.
Even the Maker must fall on bended knee and plant a kiss on the back of each of Vivienne's flawlessly manicured hands.
