I doubt she will care. Again, the fact that she's a mage doesn't mean she feels attachment towards other mages, and it seems like she regards the rebels, and likely all those who have gotten in the templars' bad side, as fools.

On the other hand, I get the impression that she, like Varric, will appreciate it when the Inquisitor can get things done quietly, with as little mess as possible. No need to get into an inelegant brawl unless your opponent is so crass and foolish as to start it themselves.

I find the idea that Vivienne doesn't care about other mages perplexing. If she was raised in a Circle, then the majority of her teachers, friends, and lovers would be mages. If she were a senior enchanter, it would be because the other mages felt her suitable for the position. As a first enchanter, part of her duties are to act as an advocate for mages and to guide their Circle.

If the situation in the Orlesean Circle is as political as they say, not caring about mages (or at least not believably acting as though she did) would be a serious liability.

Unless she just doesn't really make or build connections and is just interested in climbing higher up the power ladder--So she is DAIs morrigan.

I better start running from fanboys now.

Vivienne probably cares about mages more than most other things that aren't her own interests.  In part because her interests are hard to wholly divorce from those of the other mages - including that she can have her life messed up if they do something inconvenient like rebel.

She also perhaps cares more about the opinions of the upper class of the Mages - the Enchanters - than she does about your lowly apprentices and junior mages.

You can't be a social climber without making and building connections.

Vivienne cares for her fellow mages, she just doesn't care for the mage rebellion.

Only way I could really see her supporting the rebellion was if she is assured a position of power that rivals what she used to have or better.

I don't agree just yet. She might peripherally care for them. But from the information that we have on her, she might only be interested in taking care of her charges just as long as she's running the show.

That is to say that she is self-interested and while she might appear as a benevolent restorer of order, she may just be a snake in the grass no better than any other politician with power.

Open to being completely wrong about her, though I will not be.

I doubt she would care for them enough to put them above her own goals. You don't climb the social ladder with being compassionate, ever. Everyone, who had risen high above their station, are predators. Some just conceal it better.

I'm sure that's fairly accurate.

Yes, she's black.

does this mean there are humans in other parts of the dragon age world, will we be hearing about them in game?

I think one of the big sticking points is that different posters view the desire for power and the willingness to aggressively seek it in very different ways.

If you think that politicians are all 'snakes in the grass' then yes, you probably see Vivienne as a snake who cares little to nothing about other mages, because she's very much a politician.

does this mean there are humans in other parts of the dragon age world...

I can qualitatively say 'no' to this.

Vivienne being a politician, is what makes her the most interesting mage so far to me.

And why do you think its bad? So far we've had more than fair share of single-minded zealots to the cause, especially among mages. I, for one, more than welcome a change to that pattern. Isabela and Varric were selfish to a decree, but they were nowhere near the position of power. It's nice to have someone with the authority behind your back for once, and without the complications of the "greater good for <insert your pick>".

Being politician and caring little for the plight.

Based off of the letter it seems like she's going to be more pro-Celene than pro-mage. She kind of needs the Circle so she can continue to work without the Templars or the general population hauling her back to the tower.

I'm wondering if she'll be our equivalent of Littlefinger?

Some one already knocked how she was against the concept of "chaos being a ladder" i personally make no assumptions about any character pre release, done it before and was usually wrong.

Sorry then for my assumptions, i'm just a little tired of people, condemning her for the lack of righteous fire in her eyes. My apologies.

I was thinking Flemeth-lite, albeit working within the system.

So, gonna call this now; Vivienne's gonna have the hots for Iron Bull.

I am not shipping them.

But so far in two games we've had two lady mages who have had the hots for qunari men; Morrigan in Origins and Merrill in DA2.

Vivienne's my pick to continue that trend.

That is incredibly creepy. Will not have them both in my party at the same time, if so.

Vivienne might like submissive types though, cannot rule that out.
