I preferred the dynamic of Harrowmont vs Bhelen (although the results weren't all that, I liked how it played out in real time). I'd use that as an example of "either/or" more than DA2. For the Dwarves, there was no peaceful middle ground, AND you were forced to play politics as a Warden. It's nice to get your hands dirty a bit, instead of always elevate above the situation. I'm sick of being fantasy/sci-fi Jesus. Or Buddha, if you will. Just thoroughly sick of idealism and being the saint that brings the universe together. **** that. It rarely happens.

edit: Heh. Sorry. I'm a bit cynical, I guess.

Vivienne's description kind of reminds me of Tony Stark. She's vain, selfish, and a jerk but there's most likely a genuinely good person hiding under the court enchanter exterior.

Cassandra, just based off of her interaction with Varric in DA2 has a pragmatic, cynical side to her that makes sense (being a Seeker of Truth kind of requires you to think the worst of people). With the whole Crestwood decision, saving the Keep is best for the Inquisition (and hopefully Thedas) but its rather apparent that she regrets having to make that decision in the first place.

If the two of them are going to clash (outside of the whole mage thing) then its probably going to be over ideology. Viv's experience is life among the Court and Nobility, and it's a lot easier to rationalize "ends justify the means" decisions when you're insulated from the consequences of them. Cassandra's tenure as Seeker has seen how far those justifications can go (what happened in Kirkwall for instance).

Why do you hope that it's best for Thedas?

Probably because he wants to play a hero who helps save the world.

So cliche.

Stop ruining the magic.

I want to pretend that my intelligent choices make the world a better place, not that I'm on a narrative railroad to heroville.

So that ideally, the Inquisition can manage to seal off the Veil tears before something akin to the Burning Legion or whatever else is in the Fade can run amok in the physical world. After all, money and influence are useless if the world is destroyed in some spectacular fashion.

I'd say that you can easily be a hero,an anti hero or even a villain if you want,it's all about your character's choices and motivations and most importantly the way you roleplay them.

Err.. sorry. :P

I'm not necessarily talking about heroville though. Just taking my cue from the last trailer. "Our search will take us to every corner of this land..... the beautiful.. the dangerous...the ancient places where no one walks alone.. this is the world we're trying to save."

It doesn't mean heroville though. Nor does it mean we save all of it.

Maybe.  Morrigan did imply that we could lead the world to ruin.  Of course, this a trailer and this is Morrigan we're talking about, so she could have just been dramatic for effect.

Yes, you can easily be a hero because the game give you no other option than to be a hero. Unless they pull a DA II and you're set up to fail no matter what.

This is why I liked ME 2. You could win, you could win big, or you could fail. Even if winning big was so easy a 12 year old could figure it out, it was still more satisfying than every choice you make leading to the same spot.

Err.. sorry. :P

I forgive you! *clutches her illusion of choice to her breast*

It would be nice if we could fail to save all of it.

We don't know that.

Yes we do

We know that DA:I isn't the last game in the franchise (at least it isn't planned to be)

We don't know that.

I think they'd be stupid to destroy the franchise then. It has so much more going for it. They already made that mistake with Mass Effect.

Besides that, they already said they planned more games.

Sure it does. If they plan more Dragon Age titles, not only does it mean Thedas is saved, but the timeline we play in is as well (the "Dragon Age", I mean).

Couldn't they have a fail ending that just results in a world state that can't be continued?

Dragon Age isn't Mass Effect, the game will end on the note that they want it to set up the next game

I suppose they could. Although I think it'd be easier to just not play then. lol

It doesn't have to be a failure, it's not necessary that the existence of the world is at any danger in the first place.

I think all kinds of bad possibilities and horrendous things can be done, mind you. I'm not saying we're all going to be "de facto" hero types. Just that I doubt it's apocalyptic.
