Well, I'm the author of Modazipin, so of course I'm going to recommend it. The primary function of Modazipin is to install Dazip files found around this site or at dragonagenexus. It can also install and configure NBaio and other override files.

It's not really being developed actively anymore, but at least it works on Mavericks since a few weeks ago.

There's apparently also a tool called DAModWrangler. I haven't tried it, but you can give it a go if you wish.

Many mods do not come packaged as dazip or override files. Instead they have instructions for how to install them manually. You should read these instructions carefully. Sometimes mods might break your save files if you uninstall them.

Usually you will have to drop files into the "override" folder. On Mac this folder is located at ~/Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age/packages/core/override (~ is short hand for your home folder). Once installed there, you can use Modazipin to toggle them on and off (but see the notes about save files above).

As for what mods to install, I think there's a pretty good summary at reddit. Also feel free to add your recommendations in this forum.

Note that "Dragon Age Redesigned" currently can't be installed on Mac, mostly because it comes packages as Windows .exe files. But most of the other mods on that page do work.
