I was considering Buying a PS4 for the launch of DA:I & primarily Witcher 3 as the latter is only on next gen systems as well as PC.

Although now I'm having second toughs as I would rather play DA:I over W3 and to me it also seems kinda stupid to buy a €400 system for 1 exclusive & an up scaled version of DA:I.

I know the best thing to do would be to abandon console gaming altogether and just get a new PC but I'd rather save up for a really good one as a long term investment rather than a bare bones rig, but that will take time.

So what do you guys think I should do? Just get a PS3 or 360 version? Apart from nicer graphics, more populated areas & fewer loading screens is there any point to upgrade yet?

In the end, all games will make the switch to next gen gaming, so in that sense if you're a 'hardcore' gamer you'll end up buying one of those systems one way or another.

I personally prefer the PC as you can just upgrade it yourself as you go along, i.e acquiring an updated graphics card or new processor rather than having to be a completely new console the whole time and PC players usually have a much bigger modding community. On the other hand, having a console ensures you don't have to worry about your PC specs being good enough.

There's no reason to upgrade for any one individual game, no matter how good. It's only when you take all the games you'll get when it becomes worth it.

For example, I have an Xbox One. Getting an Xbox One for a better version of Titanfall, Destiny, Watchdogs, or DA: I isn't worth it. But when you take all four together, plus next-gen exlusive stuff like Witcher 3, The Division, and whatever else will be coming out in the coming years, it becomes a worthwhile investment. I can't imagine it's too different when it comes to getting your PC a major upgrade.

Go with the thought "Can it handle Star Citizen?" and you will end up a happy gamer.

Well we can't really tell at this point, and there is no real incentive to start putting together your gaming PC because the requirements haven't been release yet. Plus, I don't think the gameplay we saw was from any of the old consoles. No news is out on that as well, so I advise to just wait and see. However, my guess is that you'd be best off investing in a new PC rather than play the games on the old consoles or putting down 400 dollars on a system you want for just two games. Besides, PC lwill probably be the best version to have.

If it weren't for me asking/begging my parents for an Xbox 360 for my birthday 5-6 years ago, I would've never gotten into DA, as my PC couldn't handle it and I was too dumb/poor to make a good gaming PC myself.

And to be honest; I've only asked for that Xbox 360 because I wanted to play ONE game that was exclusive for the next gen. (okay, the next-gen exclusive thingie wasn't all that next-gen exclusive anymore, seeing how the console was out for 2 years by that point lol) Once I had it, I began to branch out to other games and eventually found DA.

So yes, buying a next-gen console can definitely be worth it if you don't want to spend money and time yet on a gaming PC.

I really do not think there will be a difference content wise. That usually happens for titles that are released on an earlier system and then ported to the later generation systems. Dragon age Inquisition will be released in both generation at the same time. I doubt they would be any content changes.

I had this same dilemma. I would wait until the game is out and someone posts a comparison video.

In the end, if you want to continue gaming you'll have to upgrade to something anyway.

(Man all you people are making me wish I had a PC.)

Your life depends on it. You have no choice but to get a PC. Do it now!

The good news is - you have time. I'd recommend waiting and seeing where you're at financially closer to launch.

If you can swing a gaming PC by that time, that would be the route I'd go. If not, the console does look tempting. But if it looks as though DAI and W3 are still the only games you're looking forward to on the console, does it really make sense? In that case you might be better off just buying the games for your existing console.

If you have that there is no reason to upgrade, if you don't... you'll end up getting behind as next-gen develops.

I'm planning to upgrade from PS3 to PS4 when DA:I is released. They went through a tremendous amount of extra work and dev time to make DA:I on Frostbite 3 happen, so I'm damn well gonna enjoy that in all its glory. It helps that there will be plenty of other PS4 titles I want to play, but there's been such a concerted effort to have the Dragon Age universe fully visually realized using this new and powerful engine, it would be a shame not to take advantage of that.

That's the key imho.

I'll be getting a first gen PS4 for that reason, Sony has several top quality first party studios and Japan support so the good games are more or less guaranteed to be there at some point and if you look at their previous consoles you can see how quality goes down as new skus appear (just look at the fat PS3 vs Slim/sSlim or the OLED Vita vs the new one with a cheap LCD display).

I'm not sure I follow your reasoning on that.  In my experience, the PS3 slims have been much improved over their fat ancestors, at the very least in terms of hardware longevity and stability. Getting the system in its 2nd or 3rd generation release is the sweet spot, if you ask me.

They lost backwards compatibility and look like a toy in comparison, it has the upside of better cooling but that's not a problem in PS4 anyway.

Only you can solve this problem. I was going to buy a PC first then get a PS4 later but I decided to wait it out until I have no other choice but to spend my money. I love PS exclusives so I know getting a PS4 is in the future but most of the games I want don't come out until much later and in some cases I can play them on the PS3. I would love to play DA:I on a PC but I need more than one game for me to fork over the cash into building/buying/upgrading a PC. It depends solely on your personal gaming needs. If you don't see the need to spend the money then don't. Wait it out first.

Specifically for Inquisition, no. If there's more than one game you're interested in and Inquisition happens to be one of them, then yes. Why not?

I have an Xbox One, not because of Inquisition specifically or any particular game, but because of the various group of all sorts of games that'll be on it. Inquisition, Destiny, The Witcher 3, Titanfall/Infamous, Metal Gear, Halo/Uncharted, etc etc are all fantastic reasons put together for a gaming PC, X1, or PS4.

Do it not for one game, but for many. If one game in particular like Inquisition makes you want to play it on the absolute highest quality system possible, then it might draw you to a now current gen console or wonderfully rigged gaming PC.

Though I don't believe Inquisition will offer anything substantial on X1/PS4/PC that it wouldn't on 360/PS3.

I have an xbox one on layaway right now, might change over to a ps4 because i'm still not sure which one I want but yeah DA:I is the main reason why I'm getting one about year before I would normally upgrade.

I just hope it's not necessary to run most next gen games, including DAI. 4GBs of RAM used to be super good when I got my pc 3 years ago, and now it's the minimum :/ hopefully DAI won't be a slow mess on my computer.

i'm wondering about the same question.

im not sure weather i'm going to get a ps4 when DA:I comes out or if i'm just going to get DA:I on ps3.

it really depends on what the differences are going to be. like graphics i guess would be the biggest thing.

i do have ac4: black flag for ps3 and have watched videos on youtube of what it looks like on ps4. the graphics are defiantly prettier but not too much prettier to the point where it makes the ps3 version seem bad. but then again that is black flag, not Dragon age inquisition.

so basically what i am personally doing is waiting for more information, hopefully see what DA:I looks like on the ps3 and what not. and then i will make my decision. got a while.

Well, I just upgraded to a GTX 780 ti. Not for sake of DA:I, but for the Witcher. Witcher 3 you guys, Witcher 3.

Go with the thought "Can it handle Star Citizen?" and you will end up a happy gamer.

So next gen consoles, then?

And, OP, I personally would go with a PC. You can upgrade them over time, and the best part of that is, IMO, that when you play a game over again with a new, more powerful graphics card or such, it's like a new experience! but anyway, I would say it's worth it as a long term investment. You don't have to buy a $1000 dollar system or anything.

There is no point buying a new console for one game, but if you want to play other next-gen games that will be coming out on a console then go for it. I will be buying a PS4 when I pick up my DA:I game but I am not buying it, specifically, for the game I will play other games on my PS4. I like consoles for the fact they are cheaper and usually last longer -game wise- than PC's. An upgrade of a disc drive or graphics card (depending on how upgraded you want to go) can cost 500 dollars. Consoles are just easier to manage in my opinion and if you want to upgrade a PS4 you can.
