Hey there guys! Just dropping in.

Nate_Assassin, I'm happy you've joined us, just make sure not to post anything too inappropriate - the rules are still being drawn up and no one's exactly clear on how strictly they'll be enforced. So for now, we have to keep our conversations and threads super PG., unfortunately.

Hey Nate! Found you at last. I'm gonna wait a bit before starting a new group, hopefully it'll go  much farther than last time.

@Nate_Assassin

I would hate to drop the ban hammer a mere 24 hours after this group's creation, but I will if I have to. Last warning. Full group rules will be posted soon that will outline expectations. Until then, listen to the mods or face a full ban.

Hey--I'm still alive.

Just been...sorta meh.

I'm working at the National WWI Museum at Liberty Memorial as an Intern and I'll be doing grad school in the fall.

I'm not a fan of end of the year and I've been a little down on ME in general, which is why I'm not around much.

How are you folks?

2013... was a year >_> kinda meh for me as well.

Ad that's cool Tank! Are you planning on staying at the Museum to teach/research or are you moving on?

I haven't played ME in a damn long time. My save files for ME2 all corrupted so I have to format my progress, which blows. I rage quit and haven't touched it since.

As for life in general, it's been busy. Lot's o' work and school.

Did you do your undergraduate with a major in history? I can't remember, but I think you already told me that. I've actually gradually moved into the history department. I found myself preferring my history electives to the world of mathematical physics. I tend to prefer the philosophy of history and science as opposed to the actual fields, but history gives me the time to reflect on that. I'm still second year undergrad, and I haven't decided if I would continue to grad school when I finish.

I've been back into ME2 recently, more as an inspiration to get writing again. It's only partially working. I never had the Overlord or Kasumi DLC because of my budget when I bought the game a few years back, but I finally got them and it's been a good time.

Life for me is pretty busy on the school end, and job hunting for the summer has started to eat away at my time.

I'm here for a semester; that's how long they plan the internships for. I applied mainly because I was at my wit's end for finding something to do. I was accepted into grad school starting in the fall (plus an intensive Russian course to bring me back up to speed---the program is a special interdisciplinary one focusing on Russia and Eastern Europe).

Yeah, I was a history (and international studies) major undergrad; glad your enjoying your history electives. I always found them the best!

They won't be considered electives for long. I was just going to minor, but I'm pretty convinced now that I'm going to switch majors to history.

Museum stuff, Tank?

That's pretty awesome. That sounds like exactly the kind of thing you'd be doing.

I won't discourage you--I love history, but wouldn't math be more profitable in the long run?

Yeah the museum is pretty cool and I'm enjoying my time here. I'll work till may, but sadly it's unpaid. I should start a part time job at a plant nursery this week(end?).

@Tank

When I was deciding where and what to go to school for, I was originally going to go to the Royal Military College and study history to later be trained as an officer to serve in the Canadian military, preferably in the Navy.

The thing about my studies in mathematical physics is that they're just as theoretical, and tend not to leave much for practicallity in something other than research or obscure positions of employment. I really chose it because I liked it on par with history, and there was I had some pride in getting a scholarship to a pretty well respected institution for math. If I was going for practicality, I would have accepted the business/math double degree program or applied for accounting or engineering. Having a BMath is still probably better on a resume, but if I wanted a job outside of research I would probably need o focus more on computer science or the engineering side of things.

Point is, I love history too. I'm a hard worker, and I'm not really looking to become wealthy in life. I'm more interested in answering the questions I have, and studying history has really opened my eyes to many philosophical inquiries I never thought about before. I'm not too worried about getting a job if my studies and research don't end up being enough to carry me financially. I guess the term 'profitable' takes on a different meaning in my eyes. I'm probably a bit weird in this, but my family supports my decision, and it looks like I'll finish my undergrad without debt.

---

So, I'm supposed to start up an American history assigment. I haven't thought much about it yet, got anything you think I'd find interesting. The course is more on social and cultural history than military.

General question that is irrelevant to current topic >_>:

Is everyone alright with the grew picture? I know there was a bit of debate in the old grew about our group's pic, so I just wanted to make sure people were okay with it.

No that one's great

I liked our old one but I am very bored of it

The original was just bad because it dragged another popular quote into overused hell >_>

Ok well to let you all know, I lost a bet with a friend and I have to be a brony for a week so if I have a ponyfag avatar its because of this...

Even if you mean it sarcastically, please don't refer to yourself or others as "ponyfags." We (and Bioware) don't want any slurs posted in group, and want a more casual/relaxed environment when everyone feels welcome.

It would be unfortunate, but you may be banned for some period of time from the group if you insist on using them.

I'm loving the new Grew main picture thingy on the main page thing. Looking good.

Also, off topic, I can't stop watching Breaking Bad. I got to season 5 within a week. Thank God for Netflix!

I'm really losing interest in The Walking Dead. Season 1 was really good, but after that it has been a steady decline for me.

Season 2 was like, pretty meh for me. S3 was a lot better - Rick being all crazy was a great angle for the show and created a ton of depth for his character. Plus like, The Governor is amazing >_> one of my favourite antagonists of all time.

S4 has been pretty good so far. I don't want to post spoilers in case people aren't caught up but I think they evolved past the S2 hitch very well.

Oh yeah Breaking Bad is the best thing ever. Try not to get spoiled. In fact you should just go away for 16 hours and watch all of S5.

I'm enjoying WD I just need Rick's character to evolve again. Bit tired of his endless QQ/wilderness trip he's on >_>.
