The response to the game being delayed was pretty overwhelmingly positive. These are videos that they filmed quite some time ago and said over and over again, as recently as a few days ago, were coming this month. Now they're delayed and when they're actually coming is unknown. Instead we get a blurry cellphone pic of an image on a monitor and a vague promise of something else that we should like.

No, I know that delay was a collective sigh of relief, But in an thread earlier today in discussing the possibility of another delay the response was surprisingly negative. I mean i'm not happy that they keep starving us out on info like they have but patience is a virute, the best things in life are worth waiting for IMO, as long as they don't make an unrelated announcement next week or don't just give us the vivienne character kit i'll cut them some slack. I really don't want another ME3 ending. And i certainly don't want them making unrealistic promises in the name of giving info.

Not surprised, to be honest. It seemed like "the 11th hour" and whatnot for the diaries.

Paragon statue is paragon.

Pretty much.

That's not really a picture that I would think could tide people over. Yeah it implies we'll be going to Dwarven lands, but that was a given really. It's clear-cut.

Still, it is something.

Yeah. After the 18th I was kind of like, welp, maybe not this month.

It's clearly a paragon, but can anyone work out which one, or maybe if it means something? *grasps desperately at straws*

(Also, just thought, how excellent would it be if Varric became a paragon through his actions in the game somehow?)

Dragon Age: Origins didn't have any real variety in the Paragon statues. They were that one, a female variant, and another male variant. Maybe another female one as well.

That's basically a reused resource, of sorts. Same design. The statues in Origins, aside from Giga-Paragon in Cadash Thaig, weren't discernible unless you wrote down the names of the Paragons in the Hall of Heroes when you arrive. Other then that, they were all the same.

So you won't find out who it's a Paragon of, if it's even a Paragon, until later. If at all.

If I recall, a scene of the Deep Roads with some kind of statue was already shown in the Gamescon dev diary, so it's no surprise we'll visit it.
I guess that the picture could be a hint to an update of the side with some locations or other stuffs. It could've been taken from a trailer videos, but I find this very unlikely.

I'm fairly sure Hrunger is right and it's Orseck Garal. The shape of the hammer and the pose are fairly convincing, for me, anyway. Plus, it was safe to assume we'd be going to the Deep Roads or to a Dwarven city at some point, but now we know at least a little bit more because Orseck ruled over the then-capital Kal-Sharok (which just so happens to be located between Orlais and the Anderfels, places we already know we'll be exploring in DAI)

I think Aaryn Flynn knows the Bioware fans well enough to know we'd be able to at least work out who the picture was of, lest we riot against him for the late diaries.

Agreed. I really enjoyed going through Orzammar and the Deep Roads in DA:O and Kal Hirol in DA:A.

EDIT: Hmm, looks like the quote didn't work.

To be honest he could have said something like "I'm sorry about the diaries, but hey, guess what! Nugs!" and I'd be a sucker for it. "*makes 12 posts about nugs being confirmed* *watches nug videos* *theorizes on various impacts nugs could have on Thedas*

Anyone think the "something else" next week could be a release date? Wishful thinking, I know, but I'm desperate! !

How long does it take to edit a few videos? And why so vague about this? It's like they're intentionally trying to ****** people off.

I seriously doubt that.  I think people need to be patient and lower their entitlement gage

Why am I not surprised?

Even so, I'd rather they prioritize working on the actual game, so....I'm not very disappointed. Wary, though, of claims that we'll like what's coming. That didn't turn out so well the last time they said that. Most things I liked just appeared one day without such an announcement.

Looks like an angrier version of the statue in Shale's quest.

The silhouette in the tweeted photograph and this statue seem to match up.  Considering the Dwarven Inquisitor's surname is Cadash (the same as Shale or "Lady Shayle"), perhaps it is something dealing with their lineage?

These sorts of things happen.  As someone who has made corporate videos before, shooting things like Dev Diaries (or anything really) never goes according to plan.  Editing always takes much longer to do complete than expected and rendering can take ages.  That being said, this is likely the fault of the filmmakers, not the developer.  Taking it as a testament of quality one should expect from Bioware or Dragon Age Inquisition doesn't make a lot of sense.

Meh. Not really disappointed, since the dev diaries seem to be less about the game than what inspired the devs, from what I read at least.. ( could be interested though ). Not impressed either with that pic... I don't really think that what we will discover the next week ( likely a bone thrown at us) will really hold my interest, but better something than nothing huh ?

I get it. Its a statue of a weightlifter. The game will have a short session of various olympic-kind of events, and naturally the hero needs to win some.

That statue looks a lot like this one, in Orzammar's Royal Palace.

My guess is that's in the Frostback Pass area that is confirmed to be in the game. I'm thinking the entrance area to Orzammar is part of that location. But it could also be in the mountains near Kal-Sharok. I hope though, honest to the Maker, that we'll revisit Orzammar.

I pretty much figured this out when no news was forthcoming after the 14th. So I assumed that they were going to hold the dev diaries back a month or two.

However, I am perplexed as to why people are getting excited over a low quality picture of a paragon statue. Yes I know, Mr Flynn tweeted it from his phone, but I just don't see what is so exciting about it. We can already conclude that we will be dealing with lost thaigs again given that we have the potential to be a dwarf from house Cadash. The statue, unfortunately, looks the same as any other paragon statue you see littered around, so my jimmies are not rustled.

I hope this 'something' will be info about a new companion. Though it'll probably be unlikely as it is still too early for that. Higher probability of more area screenshots maybe.

I'm not upset the diaries are delayed. But what DOES upset me is that someone decided to use their cellphone to take a picture of the "new" screenshot instead of releasing a proper one. Even more upsetting is the fact they decided to use an image found in Origins instead of a small tidbit of something completely new.

This lack of information is keeping Inquisition off the radar and killing interest faster than DA II can accomplish, and that is saying something.

Could this be Kal'hirol? Since they (the dwarfs that lived in Orzammar) took it back in origins, so that's many years ago. Would be cool to go there :)

They didn't use a pic from Origins. The pic is from DAI. It's the statue that was already present in DAO.

I know, that's why I said "found" instead of "from". For example, there were plenty of assets from Origins that were carried over to DA II - just because DA II included them again doesn't mean they are new

And no, I'm not being condescending. The whole point of my original post was to point out that BioWare decided to release an image of a dwarven paragon, something we have seen in ALL Dragon Age games up to this point instead of showcasing a brand new location or screenshot.

... why they decided to showcase an image of a Dwarven Paragon is the question.

Does it have something to do with an upcoming companion reveal? Dwarven PC background reveal? Location we'll visit? Something integral to the plot ... ?

Or ... just messing with our heads, because they like to do that.

Assets can't be ported over from Origins to Inquisition, though. Given that they're using a new engine, they've had to remake everything.

And people would complain if they weren't showing *enough* stuff from past games. Fans are gloriously diverse in their expectations. For everyone who gets grumpy that it's a picture associated with a dwarven paragon, someone would be overjoyed that it's... a picture associated with a dwarven paragon. This was a picture snapped on a mobile phone and posted by the studio head as a teaser, not a carefully-orchestrated bit of marketing.
