Back in 2011 (I believe) Metallica did an album working together with Lou Reed... it was horrendous
Hey, I saw them open for 'tallica back in the day...Mindcrime/Justice tour. Fug, that was back in '89.
Queensryche released some really stellar albums back in the 80's, but they have been pretty bad for awhile now. Recently though they finally got rid of Geoff Tate and released an album that was actually quite good. Geoff Tate being the bitter bastard that he is though released an album around the same time still using the Queensryche name and that was abysmal...
While I am mostly with pat and bud about old metallica (83-88) I will not deny that outlaw torn is an amazing song
Yes! Absolutely. This song is an absolute masterpiece. The solo with the slide, the drums, the closing part (such an amazing riff), the lyrics and the singing...the song is perfect!
Metallica used to be good back in the day and not so good currently. We can agree on that. But for all the other thrash bands that have been around about as long as Metallica and are still around are putting out some of the best stuff they've ever made. Look at Testament, Exodus, even Megadeth as examples. They are doing awesome today than Metallica is doing now in my opinion.
Batarians like St. Anger from what I've heard......

The first metal I ever heard was Megadeth. And pat I dont know what you are talking about. James Hetfield is metal. Not like he ever covered a country song.

Seen the video name and I was like "Hetfield? Why when Dave Mustaine?" Then read the rest of your post. Good man. Megadeth concerts are the only concerts I go to anymore. The sound of their tunes live is like the best thing ever.
But yeah, I'll listen to Metallica too (only their old stuff as this band that makes the most garbage music these days. How they've fallen from glory without any more stolen Dave Mustaine material & influence), just not as much because their tunes don't have as much replay value as Megadeth tunes (simpler VS more complex).
I just can't fathom what they were thinking with the production on that album...
"Hey everybody loves our old material how best can we go back to our roots? I know instead of actually going back and taking creative inspiration from our old work lets just give the album really sh** production and pretend we are a garage band! F***ing brilliant!"

Well ever since Bob Rock was their producer they seemed to always do what was popular. In the 90s it was the "grunge" type of alt rock music with Load and Reload. So around 2003 it was all Nu-Metal was popular. My two cents on the it anyways. I never listened to death magnetic

Death Magnetic is probably slightly below Justice. It is better than any of their stuff from the 90's, but still not as good as their stuff from the 80's. It also somehow managed to have weird production issues as well. The pirated copies that leaked early had higher production quality than the actual official release albums...

Vocally I liked it, but the music just didn't seem... right. If it was produced in the 80s with their 'old sound', I think it would have been a great album.
This is for all my heavy metal peeps. It is hilarious.
I posted this over in the metal thread in off topic. Oddly it got little or no attention.
As far as production goes, Death Magnetic didn't sound all that great. They need to just stop with Rick Rubin (something I thought I'd never say) because the whole 'garage sound' just isn't working for them anymore. Metallica should try to focus on being epic. They should try Andy Sneap because he's been producing all the other thrash bands nowadays and they sound great. Megadeth, Testament, Kreator, Exodus among others.
