I've reached that 33 year old stage where I don't seem to listen to new music or buy random metal cds anymore.

Any good suggestions for some up-to-date metal bands? (TO LISTEN TO WHILE I UMM... KITE SWARMERS) ?

I loved the whole oldskool meoldic death metal bands. Any recommendations for anything similar these days?

I have a go-to playlist with game and movie soundtracks. I've been really into the Devil May Cry 3 battle themes recently.

Been there.

Done that.

Burned the t-shirt.

Buried the ashes in an Irish Druid burial ground.

Unsuspecting families will build homes there.

And future generations of stupid horror films will be based on this event.

I´m more interested in prog metal than metal in general so at the moment I can recommend Leprous from Norway. Not an easy band for a starter but it grows with time. Another one is Soen. It´s influenced by Tool and Opeth. Has pretty amazing drummer as ex-Opeth Martin Lopez plays in it.

Two songs (and an intro) have been owning my SOUL.

More of the latter. I love that album.

Why yes sir!

Up to date: Vildhjarta, Animals As Leaders, and Born Of Osiris. Very different sounds from each.

Similar to old skool MDM: Skyfire, Rhapsody of Fire/Rhapsody (well they are old school), Opeth

Other recommendations: Gojira, Sybreed (last album is f'n AWESOME), The Faceless (Planetary Duality especially), Abigail Williams (In The Shadow of 1000 Suns and their latest are their best work), Periphery II: This Time It's Personal (Muramasa is a great song). And one can never go wrong with Immortal's discography or for some folk metal try Elviuete (Celtic melodic metal) and Primordial.

Lately I've been on an old school Dimmu Borgir kick. Enthrone Darkness Triumphant will forever be their best work overall with Spiritual Black Dimensions Shagrath's best vocal work to me.

This was exactly what I was looking for. I will check them out.

I used to listen to Dimmu quite a lot when I was younger.

Cheers Oni.

Hey that guy looks kind of like my GTA Online character, except she's female. She also has a top hat rather than his type, and she wears a t-shirt with the Arkham Asylum logo on it... Other than that though, their facepaint is like exactly the same.

Yeah my GTA Online character is crazy.

And FYI, not a wrestler. A rocket launcher enthusiast.

Was listening to this while playing with Nightman a couple days ago. Few things are better than concious lyrical hip hop.  Nearly 7 years ago we lost an all time great MC in Guru. RIP.
