Had some Black Cobra on in the background recently.  F-ing A, I love the song Abyss.

The main riff kicks in around the 50 sec mark.  It is my daddy.  When I grow up, I want to be this riff:

Saw these guys live here in Morgantown 5 or 6 years ago when they toured with High On Fire on their Snakes For The Divine tour. It was Bison, Black Cobra, Priestess, and of course High On Fire. Kick ass show. They're a two piece aren't they? Unless they added some members over the years but they put on a good performance. \m/

High on Fire with Black Cobra.  Kickass.  Black Cobra came through town (Twin Cities) not too long ago opening for Yob, and I had to f-ing miss it.

 

Yeah they're a 2-piece.  Seems like a bunch of my current faves are 2-piece bands:  Black Cobra, Eagle Twin, Gay Witch Abortion, and Lightning Bolt.  All but Lightning Bolt use massive down-tuned guitars.  Brian Gibson from Lightning Bolt plays a 5-str bass tuned with Cello style intervals (5ths not 4ths), swapping the highest 2 strings for banjo strings to get a harsher twang sound.

I miss having a 5 string. I want to get an Ibanez SR 5 string of some kind with reaper tech design on it. I think it would look awesome. The inlays could have little harbinger silhouettes or something.

Don't think I've heard of Lightning Bolt but that sounds like an interesting creative way to restructure a 5 string bass. I'll have to check them out.

 

FYI, they can be quite frenetic...especially their early material.  Their drummer/vocalist operates at an inhuman energy level.

I love these threads. when it comes to mass effect, Underworld and crystal method are awesome. glitch mob goes well too
