Being on the fence about upgrading my PC have a still serviceable Radeon 6970 and would basically have to build a new system to use a new hawaii based videocard. So does frostbite have some very good mantle effects built in that would be worth putting out some serious cash? Have devs mentioned anything?

I don't remember having heard anything recently but  there have been several indications that they want Mantle to be in all popular upcoming games that are based on the Frostbite 3 engine.  I get about a 10fps increase in BF4 when Mantle isn't acting up.

I don't actually know for certain, but there's a good chance that if there is general Mantle improvements in the engine, that our games will end up supporting them too.  The picture shown seems to be a pretty strong indicator that this would be yes.

Hmm, will future Bioware games make use of HSA? I'm wondering whether AMD's Kaveri APU might be the better choice for a Gaming-PC compared to Intel's Haswell CPU...

Mantle may die in a year. Also, mantle shaders are hlsl shaders - so it means no special mantle-only effects.

From what I understand from a comparison using Battlefield 4 with Mantle and not using Mantle it really doesn't have any additional features, what it allows you to do is to use a lower end processor with a better video card and get better results, so if you are using recommend levels of hardware I doubt there would be much of a difference. It would make a PC upgrade cheaper for you would just need to invest in a more expensive video card, but that is one of the more expensive parts of a computer.

I have a 6950 and I was considering upgrading to take advantage of Mantle. But now I'm leaning towards it not being worth it at the moment. (Especially with gpu prices being inflated due to crypto currency mining.) Instead I've taken to upgrading my power supply and overclocking.
