cool i didn't know it had be confirmed we grew up outside, It was bugging me that the mage could walk away and not oppose the Qun. I mean not having a prolbem with saarebas self immolating, but not accepting sucha fate yourself? sort of hypocritical.

Doesn't the Chantry see Kossith/Qunari as monsters? I wouldn't have thought they'd let one born with magic into a Circle, due to prejudice.

They oppose the Qun (ofc) but I doubt all of them feel as strongly as Patrice did and remember that our PC is not of the Qun. I'm sure there would be prejudice but the circle treats elves the same as humans so I think racial discrimination would be less of a problem there even for a Qunari.
I think it's more the commonfolk who see the Qunari as monsters and that is mostly because of their religion and military might. Remember that Sten killed a bunch of people so he is not a brilliant example.

I would like to see a situation where you were in the Qun and you were bound, but you broke free and escaped.
Hence my profile name.

I think it's most likely that the Qunari mage'll just be trained "in the wild".

I';d prefer if the Qunari in general ( mage or no) was in the Qun and left. I think that would be much more interesting, and it would give you a perspective and an opinion on the Qun.

Had a fun idea for a qunari mage if I can ever talk my group into learning the DA tabletop.
Varric: How does a qunari end up studying at the circle of magi in Fereldan?
Inquisitor: I was left in a basket on the Tower's doorstep. My name, "Saarabas," was painted onto the side of the basket. The mages figured my family must have smuggled me out of Par Vollen or Seheron or someplace. I used to think about them, what they must have given up to set me free, how much they must have risked so that I wouldn't be leashed and kenneled like an animal... *imagines qunari parents camping in the woods with an infant*
Varric:
![]()
Inquistor: What?
Varric: Qunari don't have names as you or I know them. They have titles. "Saarabas" is the qunari word for "mage" and it literally means "dangerous thing." Secondly, the qunari don't have families as you or I know them. They reproduce for the same reason they do anything else, to satisfy a demand of the qun. My guess, your parents were wandering tal-vashoth who sent you to the place they knew that deals with mages. They probably didn't even know that Fereldan doesn't leash their mages.

If this was in the game I would seriously cry! Cuz I plan on being a female qunari mage!

I know Anders said that "it would be very difficult to find training outside the circle" but we don't necessarily need to take his word as lore. I'd like the idea of an Vashoth off shoot In which Qunari (or Kossith if people want to nit pick) can live away from the teachings of the Qun. Maybe a much more primal Qunari people with their own gods and teachings including shaman who can teach young Qunari who are sensitive to magic.

That's my theory. The wiki says something about priest(esses) who didn't submit to the qun either fleeing in exile or being reeducated. I suspect some got away. This whole qun thing wasn't likely to go on overnight.

See that's a cool idea. I think It's a good idea with the Qunari inquisitor to stay away from the Qun. It raises way to many questions.

I want the option to play the qun, like in DAO we had the option to be Dalish or city elf. But that's just me.

See I like the idea. I mean they are one of the most interesting races in the game. But I think you'd find yourself in hostile situations all the time. Not only that but connecting with your companions will be hugely difficult. So I reckon you'd have 2 choices. Play as a strict qunari following the Qun, have no friends, kill pretty much everything which has no place in the Qun or Be nice, don't kill everyone, compromise. Then you're not even part of the Qun. Though I do know what you mean.

So far the only natural-born qunari we've met have been soldiers. We could be a member of the ben-hasrath, who can be both male and female depending on the role. Maybe they're a bit...freer. We don't know yet.
My biggest issue with playing a tal-vashoth or one born outside the qun, and only those options, is that it's a bit of a wasted opportunity. Imagine if in DAO when one tried to play Dwarf Noble, you got sent to the human noble origin with an added line about being adopted.
Still playing a saarabas first time out, though.

Well yeah, I know. We have met plenty of Mages who live outside of the circle and it's certainly not impossible but they were unusual.
The scenario you gave is unusual and it's something we haven't seen before, a Qunari in the circle is also unusual, Tal-Vashoth somehow being able to train a mage is unusual ect.
So this thread is for people's theories on what this characters back story will be.

I'm not sure if it would be possible to play as a member of the Qun though. Seems like you would be breaking rules just by being the inquisitor.

we've had this discussion. a Unleashed Saarabas has a duty to return to its leash immediately or turn in itself to molten fleshly puddle of muck.
fair enough play as a ...tool?.... of the qun but not as qunari mage that would require a massive retcon

I'm not saying they should cut out being a tal-vashoth in favor of a qunari, just that I want the option.

It's what came before qunari. It's not strictly accurate to say the species name, just the culture predating the qun. Think Gaul / French. Some use it as the species to distinguish it between an oxe(wo)man who practices the qun and one who doesn't.

I think the circle qunari idea would be quite nice. Like seeing how circle and templars would react to qunari mage, I don't think it's something normal to see one in the circle. In other hand I think apostate qunari who has born and grown free would be most likely. Maybe part of some group, thieves, mercenarys or travellers where some mage member would have trained him/her.
I also hope that Qunari mage will have some racial mage skills cause I think it'd make sense to have some different skills from elves and humans ^^

I read somewhere, Lady Insanity's transcript, I think, that they will not. Which, to me, suggests they learned magic not from qunari.
