Please can you make swords more realistic in size instead of those anime style steel blocks? This looks funny when hero uses two handed sword bigger thatn his spine. Realizm can be beatuful for example. This one looks much better that all sword in DA series.

Most of the ones from DA:O were pretty decent when it came to their looks. The size was the problem, but they didn't look like they came from Bleach.

Why not do both? Add more mundane blades for those that want them, yet keep the old blades plus new fancy ones for those who like that?

I support the request for more realistic weapons. Many supposedly cool designs aren't cool at all, but just silly, and combined with the animations, the oversized things tend to look like LARP rubber weapons because their physics don't match the weight they would have were they made of metal or even hard wood.

Dragon age supposed to be realistic fantasy game. Developers tell that Song of Ice and Fire was inspiration. Combine with animation all swords looks comical and incomfortable- those big things annoys player who can't see battlefield.

Really it is hard to only hold this one in hand, there is no possibility to fight.

Doesn't answer my question. Why not both? It's a video game, so if people want 'nonrealistic' weapons, they have as much right to have them as those who want realistic weapons.

That's doable only for standard, non-unique weapons, and who uses those? One of the problems is that the most powerful weapons tend to have the silliest designs. DAO was somewhat reasonable about it, even though the weapon sizes were outrageous as well, but DA2 pulled all the stops and went off into the land of nonsense.

A functionality like the DAO mod "The Winter Forge" provided for enchanted weapons would be nice: among other things like creating new enchantments, it lets you transfer enchantments from one item to another. I never play without it these days.

That's what the crafting system is supposed to fix.

Exactly. The crafting system will let people customize their weapons and armors even for purely cosmetic reasons.

Do you have a source for that? More importantly, does it also apply to unique weapons?

@Qistina:
Nice examples of how elegant and beautiful swords can look with less outrageous designs!

It was in one of their videos or a thread about the videos. I heard it months ago, so don't remember which. Sorry. :(

Qistina:
Nice examples again. Compare DA2's meat cleaver "daggers" from one of the rogue item packs... *pukes* There should be a limit to artistic license.

Me too. Gamers think this is the best weapon mod for DAO. But it isn't big problem to give us something l;ike that in DAI.

Form follows function. Real world physics dictates how a weapon looks. Weapons built to actually be used are sleek and frankly beautiful. Anime style weapons (what was that one pre-order two handed sword that looked like a car bumper) simply look out of place in the DA universe. The oversized blades look clunky and cheesy.

It's Bioware's game and they can do what they want with the art design of weapons. But without a tool set to mod in "realistic" looking weapons, that leaves us with nothing else to do but complain if they go over the top.

So fair warning Bioware, if you don't give us what we want, well, we'll complain!

So business as usual then?

Want exotic REAL weapons? Look at Keris...Malay weapon...it comes in dagger form to short sword and long sword form...

Didn't we already have weapons based on that? Like The Bodice Ripper:

Pretty much. If they do nothing but excotic weapons, people will complain about lack of realism. If they do nothing but realistic weapons, people will complain about the weapons being boring.

Which is why I say they should have a few of both.

Look at size of it. It is more short sword than dagger.

I support this idea. Let's be honest, it's impossible to look at some weapon in DA without tears.
