This was originally a thread in the Scuttlebutt, but no reason not to repost it here.

Gameplay and story aside, running around in Skyrim with a cape flowing majestically behind me, makes my experience as an adventurer so much more satisfying. And if not that, a backpack to show off my equipment is just as great to show I'm about to embark on a long journey.

Overall, it's just pleasing to the eye.

I want a cloak of invisibility just like Harry Potter.

Cloak physics is one of those so-called "tough problems" in game design. You want cloaks not to clip with the rest of the figure, and believably move when the person moves.

Those are non-trivial problems, which is why some games have left them out during the move to 3D. I hope Frostbite gave Bioware a new appetite to tackle the problem, but they may not have. We can hope, though.

I'd love to see adventurers wearing capes get pulled down and pinned by them. Dragons would love them. They could grab an adventurer by the cape and fling them around or just hold them down with a claw and watch them struggle.

Dollar Bill dies in The Watchmen because his cape gets stuck in a bank's revolving door. I guess that's a cautionary tale to other superheroes.

It's funny that you say that, but have a quote that suggests that in the end, it's all about fun. :P

Still, even without capes, I'd rather a backpack like that, then have my items be in a side pocket.

Oh devs can do cloaks. It's not an un-doable problem. It's just one that takes zots. They have been done before and are being done now.

Swimming, flying, jumping - all doable - could be done - we just don't know yet if Bio will make the "zots" investment to put them in DA.

BTW, though Dame Edna and Dollar Bill don't like them, Dragon Age is not a superhero game. In truth, it's pretty rare that medieval cloaks (which tended not to be as long and flowing as Superman's) got stuck in things.

Anyway, as you may know, you do have backpack(s) in DA. The more you acquire, the more inventory slots. It's just that they are invisible. (So are WoW backpacks.)

I think all of these things will be found next to scabbards on the dev's list of priorities.

I wonder if I can dress up as a Medieval Pimp outfit?

Thing is, in many games, cloaks are not just cosmetic (as opposed to visible backpacks, or scabbards/sheaths).

They have a cloak armor slot, and wearable magic cloaks placed in said slot can have magical properties (like other armor items). Thus, some people wanting cloaks might want them for the same reason they want (magically functional) necklaces or rings.

Dollar Bill should have used a safety cloak instead.... One that detatches if pulled with force.

Security guards or police can have those fake tie's that looks like a tie but if you pull them they just fall of.... Velcro?

You could have the flair and possibly the warmth /protection of your cloak, but it wouldn't strangle you or put you into harms way.

Depending on design a cloak or cape could help you dissapear in a crowd if you're wearing armor. Because the cloak wouldn't stick out the same way shiny metal plates does,

It's all situational.

If it's more elaborate than a hood then it would be more like a helmet that provides some actual protection.

Yes, I know. I have made many requests for cloaks in the past for this very reason. I'm just not certain the Devs place as high a priority on them as we would like them to.

The moving capes are fun to watch. My character in KoA: Reckoning has an awesome flowing cape attached to his armor, and sometimes I make him run around just so I can stare at it during the turning animations and all that.  He also has a flame sword on his back, so the cape must be fireproof.

So much to choose from in KoA, to begin with. I'm not even done that game yet, that's how much there is to do.

I'm not even that far into the main storyline. My character spent all his time doing the Warsworn quests first (and that's like a whole game all on its own), which is how he got the awesome armor with cape. Now I can watch it flow behind him for the rest of the game.

Yeah, that was a really great questline too! I'm taking my time. Have been playing Skyrim again and thankfully have the mod: Interesting NPCs, to add to my immersion, amongst other quest and DLC like mods, like Falskaar or Agents of Righteous might.

I find it amusing that there's a mod to make characters more interesting.

I haven't played Skyrim yet, but those screenshots in the OP look cool. Do the items you carry actually show up on that backpack? That could make it seem more realistic. I'm used to my characters carrying around huge amounts of invisible weapons and sets of armor by now.

Hey guys, playing KOA also.  I just got done with all of the rogue faction storyline.  Playing as a rogue/mage combo.

I'm not sure if this is possible, but it would be cool to have a cloak that gave our character the option of wearing the hood up or down, sort of like the show/hide helmet feature.

I only played the first mission of that storyline so far, but it seemed very interesting. My first character is a warrior, trying to decide if he'll be a mage combo or stay pure warrior. Next playthrough will be rogue/mage.
