I find it amusing that there's a mod to make characters more interesting.

I haven't played Skyrim yet, but those screenshots in the OP look cool. Do the items you carry actually show up on that backpack? That could make it seem more realistic. I'm used to my characters carrying around huge amounts of invisible weapons and sets of armor by now.

They do indeed. If you have an axe, it gets put on it. A torch? That too! Got the mod Frostfall (makes your character suffer things like hypothermia, etc), and made yourself a tent? It gets rolled up and tucked at the bottom. There are even mods that make you suffer penalties for not eating or sleeping.

As for Interesting NPCs, it doesn't so much make them interesting as it does add dozens upon dozens of characters with their own stories to tell, alongside almost 60+ new quests, all of which are fantastically written and voice acted by various people. It's really breathed life into that shallow puddle that was the original game.

If you're looking for other stuff to add, look up the Youtuber Brodual. He does a review for a lot of the items. That, and there's also a reddit group dedicated to advertising all the best mods the community has made.

A torch equipped to a backpack? That sounds like just the kind of thing my KoA warrior would do. Because of that cape + flame sword combo, he thinks he's fireproof.

I won't be able to use mods when I get Skyrim because I play on consoles, but I think it's really cool to see players capable of designing characters and entire quests that fit within the game. They could probably make their own games if they wanted to.

Haha, no, no. An unlit torch. That is, until you pull it off your backpack. :P

And yeah, it's pretty sweet. There are mods where people have created entire towns and continents too, full of NPCs and quests. But Interesting NPCs is still my favourite. One of the others got a lot of notice too, that being Falskaar. The latter was a stunt to get the creator noticed and hired by Bethesda, but I hear he got hired by Bungie instead, so go figure.

An unlit torch does make more sense.  Not as funny to watch though.

Now that I think about this, it would probably make more sense if weapon runes activated the same way. One of my characters in DAO wore heavy metal armor with a lighting ax on his back for a while. Logically, this sort of thing might get him electrocuted, but I like to see the elemental effects. I guess I'd vote for appearance over logic on the weapon enchantments.

I think I actually read about that one. Good for him.

Yeah, I think Kotaku covered Falskaar awhile back, but it makes me sad that mods like Interesting NPCs are still somewhat in obscurity, given what it has to offer.

And yeah, as for Dragon Age, that would actually be pretty cool. It doesn't make sense for my flaming sword to be on fire, on my back. But to take it off and have it light up with the quick swish of my hand, as I unsheath it? That would be awesome.

It could be a very cool animation. I'd miss seeing the fire constantly and have my character take the sword off his back to swing it around in thin air every so often. The rest of his party would think he's insane.

Ha, I'd probably do the same.
