So how will the PC's voice work out?

Will there just be one voice for male and female, regardless of race? Will each race and gender have a different voice? Or will we be able to choose from different voicesets?

I hope for the former. Sadly, from what I've seen, variety = poor quality.

Though I do hope we'll get different voices for each race, I know there's a strong chance we won't see that in the game.

I believe that it will be one male and one female voice, regardless of race. This way is more cost effective since they can hire 2 very good voice actors; instead of a number of mediocre ones.

Do they some kind of effect they can add to these voices in order to give them somewhat of a Qunari or Elvish sound?

It'd be really shoddy to have a playthrough as a Human and as a Qunari with the exact same voice accompanying you along the way.

Definitely won't be 6 different voices.  It'll probably be 2.  Maybe 4 and you get a choice between voice 1 or 2.  But I'm leaning towards the former.

Since you can be Dalish, the voice actors need to be real good.

True it's very difficult to speak with that annoyingly pitched voice.

Those people need to be paid extra for the damage done to their vocal chords.

I'm not sure if there will be some sort of effect put on the voices to make the sound a bit different for each race. I suppose if the VA is very good they could record multiple lines in different ways to differentiate each race. Like Jennifer Hale or Claudia Black.

Second That! I'd like a welsh/Irish accent for my Dalish Inquisitor.

Hmm, I'm curious. Guess I'll just have to wait and see. ;)

I sure hope there is more than 1 voice per race. Mike Laidlaw said in a podcast once that although he didn't know how Bioware would approach the problem a one size fits all wouldn't feel right.

Maybe one male and one female voice actor, with them digitally altering the audio to make the voices a bit different and higher-pitched/lower-pitched for Elves, Dwarves and Qunari?

Yeah that's pretty much what I was trying to suggest. Seems like the most logical option to me.

I thought there was 4 VO's? 2 for humans & elves & 2 for dwarves & qunari

As long as there is 1 for female PCs and 1 for male PCs, that seems fine to me. Accents could always be explained away by the Inquisitor having grown up/spent time in some generic town in Ferelden or some such. *shrug*

Well, I honestly think there only be 2 a male and a female, they might go with 4 and have 2 and 2 go with different accents or filterers, can't see them hire 8 for each race.

I don't really think that we will be able to choose voices. But having four voices, for each male and female one for human/elf and one for dwarf/qunari sounds good and reasonable ...

Anway, I'd be totally okay with only one male and female voice, if they are good. And as long as I have no heavy Orlesian/French accent forced upon my Inquisitor. xD

I don't see why they wouldn't have 8 different voices all together, swtor had 16 voiced PC 8 male and 8 female. That was made by bioware and they were able to do all that for a game more than 2 years ago. Why not now?

Because SWTOR was really, really expensive. Not that I have any idea how much DAI is budgeted for, but I think we can assume it's a lot less than TOR.

I don't think having just two voice actors is ideal, but if that's what it takes to get a voiced protagonist and race selection in the same game, I'll take it.

I'm assuming they'd have a fixed voice for each race, so one male and one female for Human, Dwarf, Elven and Qunari. Can't see using the same voice actor for all the races as a good idea, unless they're pretty damned clever with the editing/pitch of it.

And as long as I have no heavy Orlesian/French accent forced upon my Inquisitor. xD

This right here, this is my biggest fear, I've never been a fan of that Monty Python-esque French accent they've got going on in Orlais... I can only hope it's very much improved.

the non-humans wouldn't have the same accents. I feel they would need at least three per gender, The british could be used for humans, dwarves and city elves but I feel as though the qunari and potentially dalish would have completely different accents.

The most sensible solution is to give each gender/race combo a different voice set. Different races have different accents and vocal ranges, so they can't believably share one voice actor per gender.

Another solution is to record several voice sets and allow us to choose one similarly to DA:O, albeit with a smaller range of options and some constraints.

However this doesn't take accents into consideration.

WHAT! I thought they had been heavily leaning towards 8 different voice actors, or at least more than 2 anyway! :( Man I really hope they can/will do something to make the voices sound different.

SAME. I HATE those accents. They have similar ones for a couple characters in Dragon's Dogma. Why does it have to be so extreme?? If they're going to keep going that route, why not subdue it a little bit. Something less grating.

Hopefully there is some variation for each race. It'd kill replayability in a way, if my Fem-Qunquisitor sounded the same as my fem-human, or something.

Also, please, Maker, no outrageous accents. I live near lotsa Frenchies, and French people don't tend to sound that... insane. It's not even that funny anymore.

I think 4 VAs is enough.

One for male dwarves and qunari. One for female dwarves and qunari. One for female humans and elves. And one for male humans and elves.
