Why does BW hate hard saves?

Is there some technical issue that BW won't let you make hard saves at certain points? For instance, just before flying off to fight the human reaper, why can't you make a hard save? Just before making the final choice in ME3 why can't you make a hard save? Instead you have to go all the way back to Maruader Shields and the beam. Do they really think forcing me to replay a whole bunch of stuff I don't care to adds value? That's its somehow mysteriously going to make me want to buy DLC? All it does is annoy the crap out of me.

If you lok carefully you can see it autosaves at certains points (the walk to make the choice is one). On PC at least you can hit Alt+F4 and open the autosave in gibbed and convert it into a real save. Viola, you can choose which ending you want simply by reloading.

As to why, I have no idea as it's certainly not a technical difficulty.

It was the same for quick save in ME1, you had to holster your weapon to get your squad mates to say 'all clear' to allow you to quick save.

With fighting the Human Reaper (I am thinking you are talking about Mass Effect 2) the ground is moving around and normally with a save the ground would reset to the default location so you would fall to your death because there wouldn't be anything under your feet.  With end of Mass Effect 3 I think it has more to do with conversation triggers and that they might reset if you load a hard save forcing you to go back to the start of the conversation anyway.

Of course those are just guesses on my part, but I do think it has something to do with what is saved and what isn't when you save the game.

Save systems are actually a lot more complicated than what most people would think.

I would imagine that this is set in place at certain points in order to make your choices feel more final. For example if someone didn't like their choice and just reset thei game to a minute ago. Also ~ this is actually common to more games than those of Bioware, though I understand the frustration

usually when I make a choice intentionally, I stick with it, even if it didn't turnout how I'd hoped. now, say I sneeze as I'm picking a course of action or dialogue, and I didn't actually mean to make that choice, then I reload a save. (when I had pneumonia last year stuff like that happened a lot)

All games have certain points where you cant save, it might be a technical issue or it might be a story issue but most of the time its a gameplay issue. Like saving while in combat. Its true some of the places where you cant save feel a bit arbitrary but its a minor problem at best.

Too bad you can't make a save at the forward operating base. That would be nice. I just make a save after finishing Chronos and go from there.

You can save in the room just before where you open the door to the back alley where the Brutes will break through the wall to open the area with the Thanix Missions.  All my characters have a hard save at that point, so I still have to do the annoying "defend the missiles", but it allows me to have a save near the end.

Edit: its the same area where you have to climb through the crater in the ground to get to the door after you kill all the enemies in that area.

isn't there a chapter save at the end of the beam run, just before the husks & the marauder come at you? you could load that iirc.
