Not really a fan of either designs to be honest. I liked the idea that cassandra was completely fierce in appearance but her eyes was what stood out in contrast to that aggressive aspect, now her eyes are just too intense in my opinion.

Varrics hair should've stayed the same honestly and his eyes are also strange, seems like theyre straying too far from the original look. "If its not broken, dont fix it"

Thats just one opinion though, how about you guys?

Between the pictures in the OP, I don't know if I would say that there was a "redesign" as opposed to some evolution of the model, coupled with different lighting, camera position, and facial expressions.

Eh, if unfinished work is considered a redesign, then I guess we go through a lot of redesigns....  To me the pictures look pretty fundamentally similar.

Oh well.  /shrug

Cassandra's is easily my favourite so far.

That band around Cassandra's head is the only thing that bothers me about her as it looks really out of place, otherwise I love her. Varric...what did they do to him? his hair colour is so wrong and the eyes  it really is just those 2 things with him

Hah!  I had to actually double take and look closely to see the band!

I'll take it as a compliment :)

Was there ever a reason given why the sudden change in Varric's hair color?

Just wondering

No clue.  Could be that whomever created it simply wanted to make it a bit darker and went a bit too far (which maybe was harder to see at the time due to lighting reasons of the original/new model) and then for the purposes of snatching this picture, it was less of an overall issue rather than going in and updating the headmorph to get a new picture?

I think David had mentioned he was going to give some feedback on it as well.

That's the way :)  always find that positive!

But did I miss something? is there a reason for it or it's just deco's like Aveline's hair bands?

I don't think you missed anything.  More likely I just get desensitized.  I actually don't QA much final content (more behind the scenes systems) so continual minor changes to a character don't make a big enough difference for me to notice.

Kind of like how I'll see an old friend for the first time and he'll be like "Oh hey, you sure gained some weight!" and I'll be all "Oh I didn't really notice myself"  ;)

I'm surprised by how much I'm bothered by Varric's new hair color. He was basically bright blonde in DA2. I could see dirty blonde maybe, but the (dark!) auburn is really jarring. I don't know this Varric.

I guess you could say he's coloring his hair (or did previously) but I find that to be really silly. I hope they change it to something at least more faithful to the original. Maybe tone his eye color down too, but most importantly, please give Varric his blonde hair back!

Haha it's funny because I didn't remember Varric's hair being particularly light coloured, so when I first saw this Varric it was "oh hey he has hair now!" (he didn't for a long time lol).  But it might also just be that I was more distracted by "oh hey he has hair now!" and the colour was not registered as significantly different to me.  But looking at the DA2 pictures, especially in brighter lights, is definitely a light colour.

The above pic seems to portray Varric as having auburn hair, though my guess is that they went more strawberry in DA2 because the texture of the color looked more red than auburn.

Actually that's an interesting point too.  Never underestimate the antiquity of the Eclipse engine!!

What determines when you

Whats the determining factor for you guys in deciding when a certain characters design doesnt need anymore tweaking?

It's probably close to:

Ideally: "When we're satisfied"

Practically: "Minutes before code lockdown"

Although to be honest I'm not 100% sure.  Most of my work is systems focused, as I'm not particularly keen on a lot of fine details of the art.  Seeing some of the imagery and whatnot in these threads often points out things that I hadn't noticed myself!

I'm more curious to see how the characters who did not exactly transfer into DA2 with grace *cough* Alistair *cough* turn out

If Alistair (or Zevran) were to be featured in the game, I'm not sure his existing DA2 model would have any real bearing.  Even if the head morph where able to be imported (rather than built from scratch), it'd likely get heavily modified to utilize the improved engine.

I appreciate that you can't spoil anything or don't even know the whole story, but I think we all know we are going to be seeing more of Alistair and probably Zevran.

To be honest, I actually don't know if they are in the game.  Big game is big and I don't have my ear close to the pulse of a lot of story aspects.

I wouldn't be surprised if you're right, however.

Let's not Godwin the thread.

To be perfectly honest, discussing what you will or will not be bothered by regarding what may or may not be in mods is well beyond the scope of this thread.  Cleaning up the thread.
