Er, no one said it was our "biggest problem" on the forums (much less gamer society in general.) Nor did anyone say, "That's it, pre-ordered cancelled," over the updated looks either. The OP was asking our opinion on a very specific thing in this thread, regarding looks. Naturally, in a game that has different LIs to choose from, folks might whimsically talk about being able to romance them.
I'm not even sure what you're getting at. Dragon Age allows for plenty of role playing, although I'll grant that DA2's roleplay capability is pretty limited. A lot of folks on the forums are now very aware of the stories and meta-game as a result. Yet, there is still a pure RP experience in there, especially in Origins.

Not every woman in Thedas needs to look like a princess.
She's a part of a military and I'm perfectly fine with her looks

I love Cassandra's facial structure. The hair seems a strange texture though, on both her and Varric.

Just because some of these designs raise certain concerns to some players, doesnt automatically conclude that its the "biggest" issue or the only priority we have

I'm sure we will bond with the characters and accept their appearances over the course the game. They appear to look more "realistic", with a more "world weary" appearance than the characters portrayal in DAII. They evoke more "dark fantasy" than "high fantasy". Don't know much about about Cassandra, wonder if it's related to Homer's Illiad, but I like the idea of Varric being a dwarf that is attempting to move beyond the traditions of his people, as compared to a simple "rouge" with comic function. Still comedy elements appeal as well.
Not sure I like Varrics "pauldrons", the appearance is a bit too "World of Warcraft" and the detail, the simplistic patterning is irritating. It's not functional and I am not convinced that he wears them for a meaningful reason, aesthetic value or functionality. Perhaps a vambrace or gauntlet on a fighting arm would be more realistic than, "Should Pads" or pauldrons. Just my opinion of course.

Cassandra still looks like herself, pretty much, Varric looks a little more human than dwarf in those images. I like the new looks over all, just tone down Varric's hair and he'll be good enough for me.
When changing to new software for game development, I usually don't expect to see the characters to look exactly as they did in a previous system.

I have a bad feeling they're going to pull a "Ander's" with Varric's character. They could have made Anders become a bit more serious as the story progressed while allowing him to be that light hearted, comical mage, but instead they made into a completely different character.
I feel like that's the route they're trying to go with Varric. It looks like they're trying to make him look more severe. I can see if the stress of the situation has taken a physical toll on him, but I hope they don't change who he is at heart.

He cracks a joke right off the bat, in the pax demo. I think now that we're dealing with cataclysmic events, he's going to show his standing on certain moral decisions since he's not in Kirkwall anymore

Their skin is still ridiculously shiny. On the other hand, the lips aren't as bad usual for Bioware games. Speaking of hands, hopefully hands in this game aren't skeletal.

I think thats due to how the image was captured.

The changes are nice. I was hoping to see Cassandra with long hair like she had in Dawn of the Seeker, but I like the changes. She looks like a more seasoned warrior now, and still attractive.

I hope, he won't change as much as Anders. He isn't possessed by spirit so I think it reassuring.
Varrics character is not only about jokes, he has complex personality. I read DA: Until We Sleep and I didn't notice that he's too serious. I choose to belive that it's going to be fine. ![]()
Back to the topic. I really like new look of Varric and Cassandra. It's much better than DA II - it was too much cartoonish for me.

Cassandra has a wide jaw for my taste.
I think she would look a bit better with a little tweak but is something subjective.

They look fine considering a new game engine is being used for development. But what is up with those hair textures? Hopefully those are just alpha images.

No, they made the jaw slightly thinner so it looks like her lips are bigger.

Anders' character changed when he merged with Justice. He is justifiably a very different person than he was in Awakening. Also, both the character writer and voice actor are the same for Varrick in Inquision as they were in DA2, where both had changed for Anders. I think there is a good chance Varrickwill till be the character we loved, only perhaps a little older and wiser.

I think the lips just look bigger relative to her now shrunken jaw. (I like her jaw in the oldster design just fine. People complained about Isabellas jaw before DA2, and I absolutely love her face model, so maybe that's just me preferring strong jaws on women though. I really hate the current fashion trend towards women with tiny V shaped jaws)

You're right, there's now a little shine at the corners and I think the upper lip is a bit thicker.

Well to get that 'thinner' jaw I've had to cut between the lips so yeah there are some colour changes around and in the mouth..., it was a quick tweak
although you are right, they are a bit thick.
