Ehhhhhhhh. I can't say I'm a huge fan of either's look. I like how tired Varric looks, though. I hope he goes back to blonde.. I know I said I didn't want any more blonde LIs, but I can make an exception for Varric.<3

Really? Come on! Honestly. That's kind of like saying "I'm not a fan of men without beard."

It's her opinion

I like them both. Cassandra is fantastic, she looks tough, battleworn and experienced; Varric is the same good old suave dwarf, just rendered at higher resolution in the new engine, and with a tired/sad expression. What I don't like is his outfit with all the spikey pieces of armor, but since the devs said that we will be able to change the appearance of companion's armor (while still retaining their style) I'm not very concerned about that: as long as I can take off those ugly pieces of metal I'm good. Cassandra's outfit looks nice. :)

I don't see anything wrong in that statement.

We can probably add just more spikes making everyone look like a porcupine. I totally see it coming.

I can with them as long as Varric has an outfit that doesn't grope his balls quite so tightly.

Yikes.

I'm a big fan of Cassandra's redesign in particular, while Varric's new appearance is a little different I'd just chalk it up to being both the New Engine and the fact that Inquisition is set a few years after DA2.

i liked how cassandra looked in DA2 along with her voice - maybe just her facial expressions - she was really serious and strong, kind of a no-bullshit attitude. i think her look in DAI is softer, but still strong. it brings her down to earth a bit if that makes sense. with that being said i really like her look. only thing is i thnk her eyes would be sharper if they were more yellowish. but yeah she looks great and as long as she has the same voice and personality she'll still feel like cassandra from DA2 - but a bit softer i think.

as for varric, he looks more serious. i agree i think his hair should be lighter to be more like in DA2, but the darker hair still looks good. i think he looks a little worn out - physically and emotionally. but I'm sure he'll still have that story-telling-loving, witty, funny attitude he did in DA2. that plus his voice and chest hair and he is complete. he's pretty handsome too ;D

so yeah i like them. i also think their looks speak to how they may have changed a bit. the engine makes them look pretty different. but bioware is great at what they do and they look charming and can't wait to adventure with them/hear them bantering to each other :)

Like 'em.  (I love how character models just get better and better as the technology improves.)

Hmm... they both seem alright to me. I thought they looked just fine in the gameplay trailer.

The only thing that kinda bugs me are the... hair plugs/licorice strands on the side of Varric's head.

As far as hair color goes... maybe he's not a natural blonde.  ;)

I think thats because they're pre alpha designs, look at the trailer, it looks much better

No mention of Varric's neon orange eyes? They really let the designers go to town on him. Perhaps they shouldn't have.

So far I think they've done a very good job keeping the character faces recognizable while upgrading them to the new engine. Varric's hair and eye color are a bit strange (too orange), and the neck on Cassandra and Morrigan (mostly on Morrigan) looks too skinny, but otherwise, I think they look great.

I don't mind Varric's red hair; hair color is a small thing most of the time.

I love, love, LOVE Cassandra!!!!!! I love her most in the character kit look. I do NOT want to f*** with that woman. Her face says it all. Bravo team.

I personally think they have a lot of potential.  The only complaints I have is with Varric's hair and eyes.  According to David Gaider's blog, they haven't made up their minds about the hair color.  The glowing eyes look odd, but I have a little hope that'll get his eye color back to hazel.

Redesign is one thing, but why change hair and eye color if it isn't needed?

Guys, I know you (the devs and writers) read these forums.  What's there to think about?  Varric is blonde.   If his hair color has darkened some with age (which isn't uncommon,) then just give him either dirty blonde or light brown hair.

I think Cass looks great!  I also try to remember that some of this concept art is pretty old by now, so they've possibly tweaked the design even more.

I do not have a problem with either of them. What made me like their characters in the first place (other than Varric's chest hair) were their voices. If they retain those, then all will be well.

I disagree, I want both of them to be voiced by Morgan Freeman. The current one is a bit bland.

I like them both. They seem more real, I guess.

I'm just excited to see their development though. Especially Varric. It seemed like he always had the answers in DA2 and was in a secure position for the most part so seeing him out of his element is exciting.

I think they were using place holders voices for the demo, except for Varric.

Cassandra look lovely. I always liked her short hair, it's very dramatic.

I actually prefer Varric with the darker hair, I think it makes him look more rugged. <3

Many of these posts remind me of when they altered the overall 'look' of DA when they were doing DAII .. alot of people found it very jarring and wierd, changing the look of people/monsters and such.

I guess we'll all get used to these new faces, but it'll make it harder to go back and enjoy the older games.. everything looks so different, it's like they never really decided on a style for this series and it just changes with each game as it goes.. for better or worse :/

Between the pictures in the OP, I don't know if I would say that there was a "redesign" as opposed to some evolution of the model, coupled with different lighting, camera position, and facial expressions.
