But did I miss something? is there a reason for it or it's just deco's like Aveline's hair bands?

 

I don't think you missed anything.  More likely I just get desensitized.  I actually don't QA much final content (more behind the scenes systems) so continual minor changes to a character don't make a big enough difference for me to notice.

 

 

Kind of like how I'll see an old friend for the first time and he'll be like "Oh hey, you sure gained some weight!" and I'll be all "Oh I didn't really notice myself"

I'm surprised by how much I'm bothered by Varric's new hair color. He was basically bright blonde in DA2. I could see dirty blonde maybe, but the (dark!) auburn is really jarring. I don't know this Varric.

 

I guess you could say he's coloring his hair (or did previously) but I find that to be really silly. I hope they change it to something at least more faithful to the original. Maybe tone his eye color down too, but most importantly, please give Varric his blonde hair back!

 

Haha it's funny because I didn't remember Varric's hair being particularly light coloured, so when I first saw this Varric it was "oh hey he has hair now!" (he didn't for a long time lol).  But it might also just be that I was more distracted by "oh hey he has hair now!" and the colour was not registered as significantly different to me.  But looking at the DA2 pictures, especially in brighter lights, is definitely a light colour.

The above pic seems to portray Varric as having auburn hair, though my guess is that they went more strawberry in DA2 because the texture of the color looked more red than auburn. Either way, Varric looks great to me, though I do miss the emphasis on his bastard chin, I like the look of what a Theodosian dwarf might look like in RL. Cassandra on the other hand looks amazing. She no longer looks like that angry and completely cold person we met in DotS or the near featureless interrogator in 2, but now she looks like the badass, dragon slaying, battle hardened warrior that has piqued my interest since we first meet her. I love the looks, and I can't wait to see the kits for Vivienne and the rest of the unamed/speculated characters and companions in the near future.

Actually that's an interesting point too.  Never underestimate the antiquity of the Eclipse engine!!

Whats the determining factor for you guys in deciding when a certain characters design doesnt need anymore tweaking?

 

It's probably close to:

 

Ideally: "When we're satisfied"

Practically: "Minutes before code lockdown"

 

 

 

Although to be honest I'm not 100% sure.  Most of my work is systems focused, as I'm not particularly keen on a lot of fine details of the art.  Seeing some of the imagery and whatnot in these threads often points out things that I hadn't noticed myself!

I can't remember if this has been mentioned or not, but will we be able to change our companions's outfits?

 

 

Because I'm kind of hoping to put both of them in different outfits, Vivienne too

We can customize their armor again, but they'll still maintain their unique look (not like DA2)

Oh god...you're right! why couldn't I see that before? I couldn't put my finger on what else was wrong and yet it's the most damned obvious change in his features now you pointed it out!

Cass looks fine to me, but what happened to Varric's earrings? I always thought they made him seem particularly roguish, without them he looks like he's "gone straight."

Cassandra looks great, I like the scar.

 

However like several others I dislike Varric's hair. It just seems off.

I think Cassandra is beautiful.  She looks strong, fierce and majestic but also really striking.  I love what I've seen of her model so far, I think she's perfect for what (little) I know of her character.

 

I also really like Varric.  I love the detail in his skin and I think he's translated really well to the new engine.  I'm not 100% with the hair colour but we'll see how he ends up in the game.  After all the artists might still be tweaking things about a bit.

 

On the whole I've been really impressed with how the characters are looking and I'm really excited to see the game on release.  I think it's going to look amazing.
