Request for Clarification on Mac version

As of right now, the DA:I main page, Wikipedia, and many other sources note that DA:I will only be available for PC, Xbox (2 versions), and Playstation (2 versions).

Now BTW I remain perplexed about this. DAO came out for Mac a month and a half later than the Windows version. DA2 also came out for Mac and Windows simultaneously. Is this some kind of Frostbite issue? I am surprised there is no announcement for a Mac version for DA3.

Now, please note, I will understand if there is no plan for a Mac version. What I would like to know is if it has been definitively decided that there won't even be a port, perhaps done by a third-party porting house, that could come out 2-6 months later. Will Bioware definitively answer whether or not there will ever be a Mac version or port of DA:I (perhaps post release)? And perhaps - sometime soon? I just want to be sure that no mention of a Mac version at this point effectively means there never will be one.

If so, I gotta figure out how best to run it under Windows on my current system. But that's why I'm asking.

Oh, and fellow forumites, Mac vs. Windows "wars" belong in Off Topic.

I would also like to know the answer to this question. As I only have access to a Mac I'll be very dissapointed if they choose not to release it for MacOS.

From my understanding (although I don't currently have time to obtain a quote), the limitation is with Frostbite, as it is currently unable to export to Mac. However, also from my understanding, the DICE team is looking on adding this functionality into their platform.

The real problem is that I believe the ETA for this is not yet known. So Bioware can't announce plans to port to Mac until this project is completed.

It seems the project was begun last year, (well an advertisement for someone to lead it), but I don't see too many articles discussing updates on progress.

Gives me some hope, although of course, as maybe with the game itself, there's nothing really indicating how close they are to "done". (And, maybe Bio is also awaiting the same news, though they'll get it first.)

The first two games were "Ciderized" using Transgaming's Cider "wrapper" system. I guess Frostbite might not be "Ciderizeable" ... at least not yet.

Ehh, it's not a deal-breaker for me. I ran Windows on previous Macs, both for the occasionally productive application, as well as games. I have no need to be running Windows apps at the moment on my current Mac, but if I have to, I'll install it. Thing is, it seems Frostbite games eat processor and graphic card performance like chew toys, so I don't think this will deal well with emulation under Parallels or Fusion. Also suspect it won't be compatible with Crossover Mac. May have to go the Bootcamp route, and I hate rebooting, but I'm also gonna wanna play the game like yesterday, so ...

... Petroclis, they may be waiting on news from DICE about making Frostbite OS X friendly.

Ye gods, I hope so. As a loyal player still playing the game today, I'd be heartbroken if we were allowed to be there for two parts of the journey and then be left out.  :(

I'd buy a new just Mac for DAI, but am sadly still incompatible with pcs.

+1 to a Mac native version. It's almost inconceivable that Inquisition would ignore the solid core of Mac users at the heart of Bioware's fan base.

Sadly, posting about this anywhere else inevitably results in flaming.

And not of the sword variety...

Well gang, the bad news is so far they haven't said anything about there being a Mac version (despite there being one for both DA1 & DA2).

The good news is, there is no official statement anywhere saying "there won't ever be one," (which could leave the door open for a later port), at least not yet.

BTW, there's still a bit of bitter taste in my mouth for them saying the Toolset was the core of the NWN1 experience, then not providing it to Mac gamers.

I've been looking all over the sites for a mac discussion for DA3. This is actually the first time I care enough to join a forum to find some information. I loved DA1 and DA2 so much that it kills me to know that DA3 isn't coming out for Mac (I've used Mac in most of my adult life). Although, I'm relying on your good news that they haven't said anything that it won't ever come out for Mac. It is also good to know that they did a late Mac version release on DA1.

Please do tell if anyone sees something about the Mac version. I've been waiting for the game since last year and I wanted to download it ASAP and play it through bootcamp. But if they're having a Mac version in a few months time, I'd rather wait for the Mac version. :) Thanks a bunch!

It might be some time more before it happens....maybe check up on BF4, see if it is crossing over to Mac for you Mac users. I would think if anyone is close to releasing Frostbite engine to Mac is BF4 first. Since it is out and been out for awhile....DAI maybe another few more months after.  Hard to say, they could answer it better by saying yes or no definitive.
