Albeit this was on hardcore and not insanity, I actually had a lot more trouble inside the ship than in the waves outside. I guess it was the cramped quarters inside.
But yeah, I didn't notice any difficulty spike between hardcore and veteran for the SB himself. I rather enjoyed the fight.
I don't remember the fight, and I completed the game on Insanity, so I suppose it wasn't that hard indeed

Even the Colossus or the Geth Prime fight at the end of Legion's loyalty are tougher.
