TBH I found Kaidan's AOE reave a much better prime for charge, he is tankier and teamed up with garrus no shield or barrier last for more than 1 second and armors are weakened.

I am using her right now, as I mentioned earlier useless was a wrong word to describe her, she just have much less utility than kaidan. She is all about damage and only when given a sniper rifle, she dies fast with an assault rifle when she exposes herself too much to fire while shooting ( On insanity)

Ashley has Inferno Grenades.  That in itself is ownage.  Kaiden has what: Barrier?  OOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!!!

Grenades are limited, you know that right? Reave on the other hand is limitless and if Kaidan wears his cooldown reduction costume it has around 8 seconds cooldown. It can be made to affect enemies in an area making it one of the perfect primes for explosions. Not to mention it provides a damage reduction buff for Kaidan which lasts for 9 seconds, making it permanently last on him.

And its because of Barrier that Kaidan is second tankiest squad mate out there, after James of course. Enabling him to fully use assault rifle and be out of cover when he is shooting and not dying in process. Ashley and Garrus both have this weakness therefore its more optimal to use sniper rifle with them so they keep their distance and take cover a lot.

And lastly Kaidan provides best versatility when it comes to breaking barriers/shields and weakening armor and he provides enormous power damage bonuses to squad mates, making him best squad mate for Vanguards, Adepts, Sentinels and Engineers or any squad that is focused on power usage and not weapons.

I always play Insanity, and I find Ashley to be invaluable. Put a Revenant in her hands, and watch things die. She's basically a high damage tank. Combine her inferno grenade with someone that has chain overload, and you can trigger triple tech explosions, which are pretty ridiculous and very effective at taking down clusters of high level enemies.

The thing that you have to bear in mind with Ash is that one of the updates somehow bugged her marksmanship skill so that she can't actually activate it. She'll instead stand there trying to activate it and getting nowhere, wasting time. So don't put any points into Marksmanship and fully level up everything else.

PC users can circumvent this by loading an earlier ME3 version (Pre 1.04). The catch is that you wont be able to play MP

I'll just leave this right here:

First of all credit goes towards K_I_R_E_E_K of me3explorer.freeforums.org,

He was kind enough to upload a version of the MassEffect3.exe without the marksman bug.

It works with all SP DLC release so far (that includes the alternate costumes, new weapons, omega, from ashes, leviathan and citadel dlcs).

Fair warning:
- It is unknown whether this exe contains the fixes for the from ashes glitches.
- It will not work with multiplayer.
- It is recommended that you make a backup of your files, before running for who know what the EA overlords will do in their actions.

Link:
- for the download itself

- for the forum link, so you can thank K_I_R_E_E_K, yourself (please do its the polite thing to do)
http://me3explorer.f...1699.html#p1699

BTW: It appears that in this version fire explosion aren't triggered upon detonation. Using ME3 Coalesced editor find "bonlyondeath" and set the value to false. That should allow the explosions to trigger upon detonation.

to OP:

With inferno grenades and concussive shot, Ashley can start and detonate her own fire explosions.

Whilst she is not the tank Kaidan can be, she is more of a damage dealer. I used her on Insanity as a sort of squad gunner (especially with a fixed marksman power).

Ashley's role is to spam bullets downrange and a high rate of fire and/or high accuracy. She is ably suited for suppressive fire.

I never used Kaiden, Not even on a FemShep playthrough. I don't think I ever really talked to him either lol. I think the reason was the voice actor lol After all the whining as Carth Onasi... lol

You know, I've never taken Ashley and Garrus together on a mission? Strange now that I think about it. Garrus with Javelin and Ashley with Black Widow. I'd have to play a vanguard so I could charge my way into some combat action before everything was dead.

All-soldier teams are pretty awesome. My easiest ME2 playthrough by far was soldier shep with Zaeed and Garrus (okay he's not exactly a soldier type but he's perhaps the only other one damned close enough), all relying on sniper rifles. Will have to try it in ME3.

It cannot work without Garrus lol, I mean everything works on ME but it will be painful. Armor piercing ammo and overload of Garrus is doing all the work. He has access to both in ME3 as well.

Soldier shepard, Ashley and James is not a good idea on insanity replace Garrus with either James or Ashley and you're good. Garrus is an Infiltrator btw not a Soldier therefore you did not finish ME2 with all soldier team. Its like saying Jacob is a soldier while he is clearly not.

Um. Insanity is so easy that it could easily work.

And yeah. I forgot about Grunt (can't say he was all that memorable of a character), for some reason I thought Zaeed was the only pure soldier, been a year since I last played.

I'm surprised you don't mention Thane. He can use the Incisor and has +50% weapon damage bonus, the same as Zaeed.

Well Thane is not a soldier either so. If we're talking about all sniper team then its another matter but he is not a soldier. His warp is certainly useful.

@ AlisonsDagger. As I said everything works in ME its about the synergies between squadmates. Going all soldier you just shoot shoot shoot. Where as if you take EDI or kaidan, they dispatch the barrier/shield and you only shoot once whereas in all soldier team at least 3 or 4 shots are needed to kill a shielded enemy.

This is why Techs and Biotics is more common in mutiplayer than pure soldier. I personally see infiltrator far superior to Soldier class.

But infiltrator is superior to everything, so you're preaching to the choir there

And I wish I could see more biotics and tech in mp...I have to be extremely lucky in order to not wind up teamed up with geth juggernauts and turian ghosts

Except Vanguards go toe to toe with Banshees and brutes kill them in seconds and move to next target unscathed. If we are talking ME3 Its Vanguards first, Infiltrators second.

Sentinels are immortal.

Well I never played MP a lot. Only a few months, I saw a lot of hybrid characters and much more than "soldiers", meaning pure combat as the class system is different in MP. Most of them had at least one ability from Tech or Biotics.

Ash weak? *chuckle"

Not only does she have high survivability and insane weapon damage but her ability to prime and detonate her own Tech Bursts AND Fire Explosions with the use of Disruptor Ammo --> Concussive Shot and Inferno Grenades --> Concussive Shot, make her invaluable, since she's the only ME3 squadmate with this capability. She's the ultimate offensive soldier in contrast to the ultimate defensive soldier in Vega, both combine splendidly to make up my Vanguard's go to duo.

I wouldn't describe any ME3 squadmate as weak, though some are definitely better than others, they are not created equal. Half(4) of the available squadmates are able to create and detonate their own combos without any help from other squadmates or Shepard, which puts them ahead of the others in my book. Cookie to anyone who can name who these four are, I've already given you one :P.

Ashley: Inferno Grenades or Disruptor Ammo > Concussive Shot.

Javik: Pull > Slam or Lift Grenades. Dark Channel > Slam or Lift Grenades

Liara: Singularity or Stasis > Warp

James: Incendiary Ammo > Frag Grenades or Carnage. Carnage > Frag Grenades.

BONUS:

Tali: Energy Drain > Combat Drone. Requires detonate evolution on Combat Drone. And a lot of luck.

EDI: Incinerate or Overload > Decoy. Requires the Detonate evolution on Decoy. And some really good timing.

Ashley is beastly. As it's been said, max out her passive for weapon damage, Disruptor Ammo, Inferno Grenade and Concussive Shot with Amplifcation. Not only can she prime AND detonate combs, she can shred most any enemy in seconds with a Typhoon w. HVB.

Kaidan has *better* powers, but Ash's are faster and she can generate more explosions, which is what really counts in this game. Also, Kaidan can't even come close to the kind of weapon DPS she can put out - in fact, only Garrus can.

I liked Kaidan a lot when the game first came out, but when I started really using Ashley, I soon realized how much stronger she is. Let's just say that Ashley + Garrus + Squad Incendiary w. Explosive Burst is a serious rush.

edit: The only catch is her Marksman is bugged and should be left unleveled. It's a shame but she's still awesome without it.

Ashley's signature skill, Marksman, is bugged so she will never use it.

If she could, she would be extremely overpowered.

The only thing I hate about Ashley's power kit is that Marksman doesn't work on her. It's such a beastly power. :(

That Decoy thing with EDI has crossed my mind, but I know for sure I would rarely to work consistently. I'm not even going to bother trying Tali's one.

All squadmates are useless in combat in the wake of destruction and murder that is Commander Shepard. Things die too fast for my squad to kill them anyways so I just pick whatever characters I want to have dialogue with usually. Or for the bonuses occasionally.

Because no matter what scar you bear, whatever uniform you wear, you can fight like a Krogan, run like a leopard, but you'll never be better than Commander Shepard

I have try Kaidan in some game by import ME2 internet save file (I keep Ashley alive since ME1, because of romance reason and I don't know how to spec him potentially at that time)

As I play adept, I thought Kaidan's power will combinable with my class but he is not good as I expect.
Ok, reave is the one of best biotic sync as well as overload work potentially for shield enemy. But his cooldown is terrible for me.

Even he is on my team list. I still prefer to have Garrus & Liara.

For Ashley, I m not much using her  because of her power not matching with adept class.
