Maybe I was trying to make them too small. Oh well.

Ontopic, it could be possible for the demon to communicate through an object. I personally think Red Lyrium is a tool for whoever/whatever it is. I mean, even Bartrand who has never been in the Fade even in sleep heard 'singing' from the idol. And both Bartrand and Meredith started piling up a bodycount due to the effect the Red Lyrium had on them, and bloodshed weakens the Veil.

Possible i suppose but i'd argue Red Lyrium could just be more connected to the Fade then its normal every day counterpart considering its far more powerful and Lyrium is magic made physical after all.

An unknown demon that isn't a Pride, Desire, hunger, sloth with the help would a group of people in Thedas to cause the Veil Tear?

Exactly. Like I said, it could be a Greater Pride Demon perhaps or as you said a demon unknown to us.

That is another possibility, but does normal lyrium sing to people? I know it did to Justice in Awakening, but he is a spirit so can't really answer that.

One of those Sorrow Demons or whatever or Perhaps a Demon class unknown to us entire as in the dev have said nothing about it period.

That could merely be a product of it being stronger then normal as well.

Those are possibilities. The Sorrow one could be interesting since it could be feeding on the sorrow of all those who have lost others important to them.

Just shows how much more powerful Red Lyrium is to its blue counterpart.

Blue: Singing can only be heard by spirits.

Red: Can be heard by even the permanently disconnected to magic Dwarves.

I only hope that it isn't a generic evil moustache-twirling Tevinter magister

I personally could see one of the ancient four unbound being behind it if it is a demon.

The mastermind is Sandal. All those runes he made for you have a hidden stat: +1 to veil tearing.

I hope its a group of people. Perhaps they didn't plan this at the start and due to whatever reason tearing the veil is beneficial to them.

Perhaps dragon cultists and dragons. By tearing the veil sleeping great dragons will awaken once again maybe even making them stronger.

I had this crazy theory which relates to this subject. Basically, the Old God who spoke to the Magisters, wasn't actually Dumat, but rather something who wanted them to open Pandora's Box with the intention of getting the Old Gods out of the way, and possibly trapping something within the Golden/Black city. I also think this entity was the same one who spoke to Andraste, and manipulated events to create the Chantry. What it is, I would say is a sort of trickster god ( basically Fen'Harel - for lack of any other name) who wasn't as powerful as the Gods, but was smarter than them.

To me it looks like a long con. But if you are immortal, what difference does time make. The end game is of course to tear the veil and restore the world to what it was previously.

The Maker has been strangely absent hasn't he? The Chantry says he abandoned Man for their hubris, maybe he didn't 0_o

I'd prefer to believe that Corypheus is doing his own thing and that, yes, we would have to confront him at some point in the game to stop him but I also don't want him to be the one causing all this. That being said, I also don't want it to be Flemeth, it would give me serious Heart Hurts to be forced to kill her.

i defiantly think that there was several things happening that lead up to the opening of the veil to the fade. or it could be the result of the mage/templar conflict. i have no idea.

i do think flemeth and morrigan are defiantly up to something big. could have something to do with veil ripped open? or could even have something to do with stopping the veils and the demons from taking over thedas? or it could be something completely different.

can't wait to find out. :)

Who says someone has to be behind it? Maybe it's just a natural consequence of magic use and people visiting the fade. Punch enough holes in a barrier and eventually it'll break.

Def hoping for, if there has to be a Big Bad behind the veil tears, someone/something/a group who isn't a stereotypically "Fer Teh Eevlulz" villain like in some media. Believable antagonist(s), pweez.

Really? When I met both, I got the exact same feeling from them. Well, it's fine regardless. I think he is one, you think he is not.

Except that you've no evidence except them feeling similar. The darkspawn have been able to find the old gods before, so the architect finding one is not evidence of him being a magister. Nor is him having magic, other darkspawn can do that.

Some of the emissary's could communicate, and were smarter, according to the codex. The architect could be what he says he is.

I'm pretty sure that whoever it is at least set up the mage-templar war. Or contributed to it. Whispered some venom in people's ear and etc. Maybe even the Blight. The impression I got is that the person wanted the world in disarray so that it couldn't react with any kind of alacrity to the Tear. I am expecting a Machiavellian (OMG I SPELLED THAT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME) character for this. One named Flemeth.

Everything the OP says runs along the same lines as my theory.  I would add that most of situations that were stated are now continuously repeating themselves though history in differing ways.  Which also leads me to agree with Master Warden  that the string pulling could be traced back not only all the games, but the repetition can been recognised in the books too. I'm not calling this laziness, but clever writing. Not just situations either, there are conversations with different characters that are similar that also repeat themselves, but they mean the same thing.  It's like someone continually asking the same questions but in different ways. I think Banxey's idea of the long con and the Chantry is pretty much true too.

Flemeth was born in the Tower age.  Has this been going on before that? The first Blight was-395 Ancient (800 TE) and lasted nearly two centuries, the longest Blight in history.  Each  blight has been shorter than the last.  Is it Flemeth? I don't know,  but the idea that she in turn could be manipulated is delicious, even if it does prove otherwise.

There is also his appearance, which is different than Hurlock Emissaries yet very similar to Corypheus.

Back to the mastermind though. I just had a thought while typing all this. having a mortal human ultimately be behind all of this, a chantry person for example, would be a dramatic coup. Think of it - if you're a devout, true believer who wonders why the Maker could have abandoned everything just because of the Magisters, what would be a way to get his attention? Do everything you can to put the world in jeapordy - force the Maker's hand. If a mortal could have manipulated these things, set forces in motion simply to get Dad to show he still cares... AND if you can pull it off believeably, that would be strong.

Not a fan personally.

The "member of the main world religion is the ultimate bad guy" thing is not really any more original than moustache-twirling mad mage.

Also, it being a mundane AND a member of the Chantry? Practicly a perfect pro-mage propaganda "Look how dangerous the Chantry is! The mages aren't that dangerous!"

I think this situation has some parallels to the Star Wars universe.

We see that the Clone Wars, Trade Federation, events on Naboo, corruption in Coruscant, Jedi spread thin, Clone Army, Order-66 were in fact part of the Revenge of the Sith on the Jedi.

& for the most part it was Palpatine / Sidious and Damask / Plagueis that were pulling the strings, at least until Sidious killed his master.

So this might be the same situation.

Someone had insinuated themselves into high level politics and at the same time is using magic to manipulate the events on Thedas to bring about the Veil Tear for revenge and power.

So maybe someone high up in the Chantry who has powerful magical capabilities ? Or a Tevinter cult led by one of their magisters ? Or Flemeth ?

Well...who is most like Palpatine in Dragon Age so far.. ? Hmm...
